Job Summary

The Teacher Residency Site Coordinator is a part-time (12-month) grant funded position that works with a cohort of teacher residents (pre-service teachers) and their mentor teachers. The Site Coordinator will provide instruction of teacher preparation courses and ongoing evaluation of the teacher residents’ instructional competency, delivering corresponding instructional coaching support. The Site Coordinator will also build relationships with residency mentors, facilitating the development of their coaching and mentoring capacity. The Residency Site Coordinator will supervise teacher residents in their placement schools and will supervise and access the residents’ work that is submitted. In addition, the Site Coordinator will supervise cooperating teachers in their capacity as residency mentors. Up to two positions will be hired with a concentration in the Pine Belt area and the Gulf Coast area.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Engages in on-site observation, instructional coaching, and mentorship at partner sites.

  • Delivers coursework in teacher preparation and teacher mentorship.

  • Serves as a liaison between teachers residents, mentor teachers, school administrators, and the College of Education and Human Sciences.

  • Recruits, retains, and facilitates development of mentor teachers in collaboration with school and district administrators.

  • Attends university meetings and programs, including faculty meetings and professional development, as appropriate.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Master's degree from an accredited college or university in elementary or special education, educational leadership, or closely related field. Five years of experience of classroom teaching experience in an elementary or special education classroom. Current Mississippi Educator Endorsement.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Knowledge of educator preparation

  • Knowledge of diverse populations and cultures

  • Skill in database management, including ability to gather, maintain and accurately report data

  • Skill in the use of software applications including proficiency in Microsoft Office 365

  • Skill in both verbal and written communication

  • Ability to maintain confidentiality

  • Must have dependable transportation and be willing to travel to school-based internship sites

Preferred Qualifications

Ten years of classroom teaching experience or combined 10 years of teaching and school administration experience. National Board Certification. Experience mentoring pre-service or first year teachers. Experience delivering professional development. Prior experience supervising/teaching elementary or special education students.
