About the Role

The Senior Manager of Data Science within Ring Data Science & Engineering plays a pivotal role in shaping how we carry the voice of our customers. We strive to understand their behaviors and preferences in order to provide them with the best smart security experience and identify the greatest growth opportunities for the business.

Key job responsibilities

We are seeking an experienced Senior Manager of Data Science to lead the Data Science and Business Intelligence functions within the Ring Data Science & Engineering org. In this role, you will:

  • Align with senior leadership and stakeholders on top priorities

  • Define the team’s vision, strategic roadmap, and ways of working (processes and mechanisms)

  • Provide technical guidance, hire, and develop managers and teams

  • Oversee implementation of state-of-the-art technical designs (data pipelines, data models, predictive models, dashboards etc.)

  • Communicate strategy, progress, and impact to senior leadership

A day in the life

You'll develop multiple teams of data scientists and business intelligence engineers shaping our data strategy through vision setting, data governance, and science excellence; fostering an inclusive culture that encourages empathy, experimentation, and innovation. You will guide your teams in balancing strategic thinking with company objectives, and collaborate with key cross-functional leaders and teams to work backwards from the customer to ideate, validate, and execute business opportunities at the forefront of the data science landscape. This will include overseeing the regular application of techniques involving artificial intelligence, machine learning, predictive modeling, causal inference, and large language models.

Basic Qualifications

  • Quantitative Masters Degree or Quantitative Bachelors Degree. May have PhD in a discipline not directly applicable such as chemistry or biology.

  • 10+ years as a scientist or science manager

  • 7+ years of applying data science models/techniques for large-scale application and building automated analytical systems experience

  • 5+ years managing scientists or engineers

  • 5+ years experience with SQL

  • 2+ years managing managers

  • Knowledge of Python or other scripting language

Preferred Qualifications

  • PhD in computer science, mathematics, statistics, machine learning or equivalent quantitative field

  • Experience in a least one area of Machine Learning (NLP, Regression, Classification, Clustering, or Anomaly Detection)

  • Experience with explainability (XAI) in machine learning and artificial intelligence

  • Experience building data products

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $166,700/year in our lowest geographic market up to $324,100/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
