Pay: $22.00/hr.

Work schedule: Full-time, office hours: 9:00a - 6:00p or 11:00a - 8:00p

HOPE is a residential/outpatient chemical dependency treatment facility for justice-involved clients re-entering the community. Located in Henderson, Texas the HOPE treatment facility is looking for a Substance Abuse Counselor who can perform moderately complex substance abuse counseling.

Job responsibilities: Plan, coordinate, and implement substance abuse counseling activities; and coordinate with other departments to ensure the maximum utilization of resources available for chemical dependency treatment and rehabilitation in compliance with Management & Training Corporation (MTC) and Texas Department of Criminal Justice (TDCJ) directives.

Essential Functions: Assists in planning substance abuse counseling programs; and coordinates the delivery of counseling services to residents with histories of chemical use, abuse, or addiction.

  1. Provides a comprehensive evaluation from a battery of useful measurement tools to assess the recovery needs and the re-offense risk of residents.

  2. Provides counseling and recovery skills training; participates in resident orientation, educational and individual and process counseling groups in compliance with program standards, guidelines, policies, and procedures.

  3. Maintains resident records and other records regarding services provided to include statistical feedback on evaluations; compiles data and submits reports and related documentation as appropriate.

  4. Complete required forms, assessments, progress reports, or other documents for each resident on caseload to reflect the level of participation and quality of completion.

  5. Submit required documentation to the appropriate authority as required for each resident during and at the completion of the program.

  6. Supervises the work of others; and assists in instructing others in program methods, procedures, and functions.

  7. Utilize approved curriculum and provide appropriate treatment programming and structured activities as required for contractual compliance.

  8. Coordinate or participate in transition meetings, peer reflection meetings, treatment team meetings, and other required program-driven support, and recovery-based activities as required by the contractor.

  9. Promote the development of positive social skills through modeling appropriate behaviors and intervening when inappropriate behaviors are observed; provide regular feedback to staff regarding social skills procedures and intervention techniques.

  10. Maintain accountability of staff, residents, and property; adhere to safety practices.

The incumbent is expected to perform other duties as assigned within his/her capabilities as determined by management.

Education and Experience Requirements:

Graduation from an accredited senior high school or equivalent or GED. Current licensure as a Licensed Chemical Dependency Counselor (LCDC) by the Texas Department of State Health Services (DSHS) or current valid Qualified Credentialed Counselor (QCC) license to provide substance abuse treatment. A valid driver’s license in the state of Texas with an acceptable driving record is required unless waived by management.

Post Hire Requirements:

Must complete preservice program and annual training requirements. Must successfully pass an annual background check, both of which must be approved by TDCJ. Must pass drug screen.
