Jacobs Building Mechanical Engineer – Professional Associate in Herndon, Virginia
Focus on HVAC and plumbing systems for water and wastewater treatment-related facilities which typically feature process treatment buildings, but also can include administration and operations buildings, laboratories, maintenance buildings, or occasional assignments for other business units. Building mechanical design services of systems in areas of potable and non-potable water distribution, Building and roof drainage systems, HVAC systems, Fire protection and odor control assets. Central hydronic plant design (boilers, chillers, cooling towers) Designing central utilities and process exhaust systems for manufacturing, lab, and office spaces Typical duties include technical writing, construction drawing and specification production, shop drawing review, and responding to requests for information during construction.
Telecommuting is allowed.
TRAVEL: Up to 25% domestic for field visits and meetings at client project sites.

REQUIREMENTS: This position requires a Bachelor degree or foreign equivalent in Mechanical Engineering and 5 years of work experience in Mechanical Engineer or related occupation.
SPECIFIC SKILLS:
Expertise/ knowledge of: Perform quality inspection on the installation of heating, cooling, and ventilation equipment for municipal water and wastewater treatment facilities. Design HVAC system including heating and cooling equipment, ductwork, and accessories. Evaluate and select equipment for hydronic and related plumbing systems. Provide sizing calculations for the systems, piping, ducts, and other appurtenances related to the systems noted above. Provide energy simulation usage calculations using for the systems noted above. Applicable local and national building codes (NFPA 820) and industrial ventilation standards governing the installation and design of mechanical systems, ensuring that all projects meet legal and safety standards. Software tools - Carrier’s HAP and Trace 3D - to conduct detailed analyses of system performance, assisting to fine tune system efficiency and effectiveness. Control mechanisms governing HVAC and plumbing system on wastewater treatment plants, including protocols (SCADA, BACnet, etc.)., development of control sequences and logics, defining control points and integrating field control devices with controllers for precise system control and monitoring.
