Amazon Senior Commercial Strategy Manager, EU Transportation Engineering Services, Project Delivery Office (PDO) in Hamburg, Germany

The EU Transportation Engineering Services (TES) are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Senior Commercial Strategy Manager for our Project Delivery Office division. The candidate will play a pivotal role in ensuring the financial success of the portfolio overseeing deals negotiations, process standardization and maximizing YoY improvement.

The role is responsible for leading the financial governance aspects of TES portfolio (New builds, Retrofits, Expansion and Initiatives) during the pre-execution phase. Working closely with our internal business partners, leadership and external stakeholders, the senior commercial strategy manager develops the strategy and roadmap and ensures the projects are financially viable, well-planned, and aligned with the budgetary and goals. This role requires a deep understanding of industrial developments construction and engineering economics, cost estimation, and market trends, as well as exceptional communication and negotiation skills to achieve successful project outcomes. The candidate’s strong commercial acumen is instrumental in driving frugal portfolio and optimized deals.

The role can be based at our corporate offices in Luxembourg, Germany or Poland with 50% of time traveling either domestically or to other EMEA countries.

Applicants should have experience of construction and engineering cost management of simultaneous multiple projects, with examples of designing and deploying process improvements for greater cost control

Key job responsibilities

  • Develop the commercial strategy and align with leadership on strategic goals and KPIs

  • Lead the collaboration with business partners and internal stakeholders to define project goals, scope, and budgetary constraints.

  • Oversee design and engineering teams to develop accurate and realistic project cost estimates.

  • Drive market research and analyse trends and industry standards to identify potential optimization opportunities.

  • Drive the analysis of project designs and specifications to identify potential cost-saving opportunities and value engineering options.

  • Validate initial project budgets and financial models to ensure effective financial planning

  • Review vendor and contractor proposals to ensure competitiveness and alignment with project objectives.

  • Drive in-depth financial analysis and provide financial insights to leadership regarding the impact of design decisions on project costs to support decision-making processes.

  • Lead negotiations with contractors and vendors to ensure favourable terms and conditions.

  • Establish and implement effective cost control measures to optimize project budgets without compromising quality.

  • Participate in project review meetings to address financial queries and ensure alignment Amazon expectations are met.

  • Provide expertise in post-project analysis to identify lessons learned and improve future cost estimates.

  • Building and managing relationships with business partners and various stakeholders

  • Collaborate with finance teams to ensure accurate strategic financial planning

A day in the life

A day in the life of this role will be meeting with teams to develop and finalise the budget for new projects and then support through the approvals process with benchmarking and negotiation, develop the cost/benefit analysis and then create the road map for implementing the cost management of the live project. You will also work closely with our internal design team and construction managers to deliver best practices and lessons learned into future generations of projects. Process improvement is key, as we scale across countries, currencies, construction and engineering elements. You will dedicate time each day to finding ways to scale the solutions the team designs to work across all regions of Planet Earth.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree

  • Excellent command of the English language.

  • Significant relevant experience in commercial management preferably within logistics and industrial construction and real estate industry.

  • Strong understanding of contracts, legal terms, and regulations.

  • Proven track record of successfully managing commercial aspects of multiple projects and driving programmatic profitability.

  • Proficiency in using cost estimation software and financial modelling tools (BIM360 cost module).

  • Ability to analyze market trends, identify business opportunities, and develop strategic plans.

  • Ability to collaborate effectively in cross-functional teams, adapt to evolving business needs and report to Senior Leadership.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

  • Excellent communication and negotiation skills to interact effectively with internal and external stakeholders.

  • Ability to identify and implement cost-reduction strategies to enhance profitability and reduce expenses.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Familiarity with Data Visualization, Dashboard creation and Data Analytics.

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, mechanical, operations, supply chain, business administration, or equivalent STEM field.

  • Master's degree in Cost Management, Finance or a related field.

  • Experience in running large Value Engineering efforts in a construction context.

  • Experience working in a fast-paced and ambiguous environment.

  • Experience working in large teams or at a national/multinational organization.

  • Experience communicating complex information and solutions to senior stakeholders and influence decisions.

  • German, French, Polish, Arabic are considered preferred qualification
