A place where people of all ages can come together, relax and enjoy an always fresh from scratch meal that is approachably priced and made as much from locally sourced ingredients as possible. We want to create a space where people can share a sense of pride when they dine knowing that it's supporting others that they have personal relationships with and in turn we hope to cultivate a deeper sense of connection among them. We want to share our understanding of how food influences health and wellness with our staff and teach them basic skills for preparing healthy food at home so that they may share those skills with their own families. Sassafras Kitchen & Coffee Bar is looking for a Sous Chef to join our team in Hillsboro, OH.

Job Description:

The Sous Chef is responsible for the overall food service and operations of the restaurant. This individual will work to ensure that all food orders are prepared to the specifications of the Executive Chef. The Sous Chef will work under the supervision of the Executive Chef and will assist in all culinary tasks as directed by the Executive Chef.

Responsibilities:

  • Prepare all food items according to menu specifications and to guest standards
  • Oversee kitchen staff's activities and provide guidance and feedback when needed
  • Set up and stock stations with necessary supplies
  • Prepare, cook, present, and serve food items in an efficient and timely manner
  • Keep track of inventory and place orders for kitchen supplies
  • Keep the kitchen area clean, sanitized, and safe from damage from guests or employees
  • Maintain cleanliness of work area, utensils and equipment. Report any damage to equipment or lack of sanitary conditions to the Executive Chef immediately.
  • Ensure that all food items are stored properly and remain cool enough for safe handling.

Qualifications:

  • Previous experience as a Sous Chef or similar role in a restaurant is preferred.
  • Serve safe Certification Preferred but not required.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment. Must be able to multitask, prioritize, and manage time effectively.
  • Must be able to communicate clearly with other employees and management. Must be able to follow procedures, instructions and recipes.

Job Type: Part-time

Pay: From $15.00 per hour

Expected hours: 20 -- 30 per week
