Kaiser Permanente Sterile Processing Manager in Hillsboro, Oregon

Job Summary:

To manage, direct, integrate and coordinate all aspects of sterile/medical instrument processing for equipment, supplies and services within the NW region in support of the Mission of the Program, ensuring a safe and cost-effective operation that is in compliance with all regulatory agencies.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Manage and organize instrument processing services in the Northwest Region in a cost-effective manner; develop and administer operating and capital budgets; establish and monitor performance guidelines and adjust when necessary; ensure maximum service to the Region with allocated funds; develop programs, policies and procedures designed to enhance budget performance. Maintain an ongoing process to identify, evaluate and implement cost restructuring activities. Develop and maintain a method of assessing and reporting cost effectiveness within instrument processing. Design and administer programs and controls to ensure security and effective management of the Regions assets to include: medical instrumentation, processing equipment, inventory of supplies.

  • Organize and deliver sterile/medical instrument processing resources across a broad spectrum of locations and requirements. Develop and implement policies and procedures. Incorporate and negotiate programs to serve individual facility needs in conjunction with regional goals and objectives.

  • Develop and recommend strategic plans for improvement or expansion of sterile/medical instrument processing throughout the Region. Design and administer programs and controls. Set policy and procedure in collaboration with identified stakeholders; serve as program advisor for sterile/medical instrument processing for new facilities, remodels, and shifts in procedure requiring use of medical instrumentation.

  • Direct and develop the quality of sterile/medical instrument processing services by creating and organizing policies, procedures and quality standards and provide continuing Quality Assurance to ensure consistency in practice and application. Develop training for sterile/ medical instrument processing and conduct audits on a regular basis.

  • Investigate and research needs of the customer base throughout the Region and provide appropriate service levels. Develop, direct, and assure sterile/medical instrument processing services which remain fluid and able to respond quickly to a changing environment. Problem solve systems and operations issues.

  • Develop and implement policies, procedures and guidelines to maximize the effective use of personnel. Ensure an effective level of cooperation with Union business agents, shop stewards and employees; analyze and adjust personnel policies to assure maximum internal/external harmony. Evaluate and revise staffing requirements as necessary.

Basic Qualifications:

Experience

  • Minimum two (2) years of leadership/supervisory/management experience.

  • Minimum three (3) years of sterile processing.

Education

  • High School Diploma or General Education Development (GED) required.

License, Certification, Registration

  • Registered Central Service Technician Certificate within 6 months of hire OR Certification Board for Sterile Processing and Distribution - Technician Certification within 6 months of hire

Additional Requirements:

  • Demonstrated project management.

  • Demonstrated effective communicator both written and oral.

  • Able to effectively read organizational climate.

  • Demonstrated ability to conduct business in a complex, multi-departmental organizational structure, work with all levels of management.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Minimum ten (10) years in Managed Healthcare.

  • Working knowledge of the Kaiser Permanente system.

  • Certification: Sterile Instrument Processing Technician.

  • Working knowledge of remote sterile processing plants and transportation needs as well as inpatient ORs.

  • Bachelors degree or higher in related healthcare field.
