Guardian Life Finance Lead for Underwriting & Operations, Group Benefits in Holmdel, New Jersey

In this role, you will report to the Head of Finance for Underwriting & Operations, Group Benefits and play a pivotal role to help support all financial aspects of Underwriting and Operations within the $5B+ Group Benefits business. The Underwriting and Operations functional areas are comprised of nearly 1,200 staff (on & offshore) and $95M of annual spend. You will collaborate with Underwriting and Operations leadership and provide recommendations based on financial analysis to assist management in making decisions aligned to the strategic vision of the employee benefits business.
You will serve as a strategic advisor and business partner, providing critical insights and identifying emerging trends, risks, and opportunities for both the Underwriting and Operations value chains. Ensuring alignment between workforce planning and budget development for each function, you will also support business case development by offering guidance on estimated value creation and measuring the realization of benefits for all investments led by Underwriting and Operations.
You will:
Coordinate financial analysis for the Underwriting and Operations value chain.
Operations: Implementation, Customer Set-Up, Enrollment and Billing, for both group and retail businesses.
Underwriting: RFP, Rating, Risk Underwriting & Underwriting Operations.
Provide enhanced analytics pertaining to both Underwriting and Operations value chains, while partnering with D&A team to develop and manage reporting inventory.
Manage cost & benefit analysis related to business case development of new initiatives as part of the portfolio process.
Measure benefit realization of implemented projects cases to ensure continued investment warranted for value creation and IRR estimates.
Be responsible for providing financial analysis for automation and Artificial Intelligence (AI) projects that impact both operational functions, including input on use case prioritization.
Partner with workforce planning (WFP) to provide financial guidance that supports strategic goals for both functions, including appropriate career framework, productivity improvements, expense discipline and customer experience.
Develop recommendations and mitigations of staffing risks with management, and coordinate regular updates based on FP&A reforecasts of volume projections (sales & inforce).
Collaborate with WFP and business partners to develop time studies.
Drive results within team and with cross functional partners by assessing need, developing, and implementing processes to enhance workflows where applicable on key deliverables.
You have:
10+ years of relevant experience within the Group Benefits industry with Finance or Actuarial experience
Bachelor’s degree in finance, Actuarial Science, Mathematics, or a related field.
FSA, CPA, CFA designation or equivalent relevant accreditation / advanced degree preferred.
The ability to think critically, analyze, prioritize, take initiative, problem solve.
Demonstrated business acumen with ability to build relationships with executive leadership and across multiple matrix organizations.
Leadership experience combined with the ability to manage a team of analytical and technical professionals.
Organizational savvy with ability to influence cross functionally.
Strong analytical and technical skills with the ability to synthesize complex information and translate into a compelling narrative.
Proficient within the Microsoft office suite along with data visualization experience.
Location:
Hybrid role - 2 days in office, 3 days WFH. Role can be at any Guardian office located in Hudson Yards, New York City; Bethlehem, PA, Holmdel, NJ; Pittsfield, MA; Boston, MA.
Travel to Guardian offices as determined by the People Leader.
Salary Range
$99,190.00 - $162,955.00
The salary range reflected above is a good faith estimate of base pay for the primary location of the position. The salary for this position ultimately will be determined based on the education, experience, knowledge, and abilities of the successful candidate. In addition to salary, this role may also be eligible for annual, sales, or other incentive compensation.
