If so, we invite you to join our skilled team at the Department of Transportation Wayne County Maintenance Organization as our Diesel and Construction Equipment Mechanic. DESCRIPTION OF WORK As a certified automotive and heavy equipment technician, you will engage in various analytical, preventive maintenance, and repair tasks for a fleet comprising of construction machinery, trucks, cars, and hand tools. The equipment operates on both gasoline and diesel engines. Your responsibilities will include conducting repairs and maintenance on hydraulic, electrical, heating, cooling, and exhaust systems, as well as manual and automatic transmissions. Furthermore, you will carry out state vehicle inspections for all designated equipment that necessitates such evaluations, complete necessary work orders, accurately record time spent, and promptly report any incidents or damage to the equipment.

Work Schedule and Additional Information: Full-time employment. Work hours are 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with 30-minute lunch. Winter shifts: 4:00 AM to 12:00 PM or 12:00 PM to 8:00 PM

Travel, overtime and shift work required.  Work hours subject to change based on seasonal requirements and operational needs. Salary:In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable. QUALIFICATIONS Minimum Experience and Training Requirements: Successful completion of the commonwealth's Diesel and Construction Equipment Mechanic Trainee program; or Two years of journey level mechanic experience in the diagnosis and repair of automobiles, heavy trucks, or construction equipment, which includes one year of experience in the diagnosis and repair of diesel vehicles or equipment; or An equivalent combination of experience and training.

Special Requirements: Must possess a valid Class A or Class B Commercial Driver's License. Must possess a valid Medical Examiner's Certificate in accordance with the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations.

Conditions of Employment: All employees must obtain an active certification issued by the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation in the operation of heavy trucks and loaders within the probationary period. Employees may be required to obtain and maintain CDL endorsements and certifications necessary to operate specific pieces of equipment. Certain positions may require employees to possess a valid Pennsylvania Class 1, 4, or 7 Inspection Mechanic Certification on the first day of employment. All positions require operation of vehicles or equipment with a manual transmission. This position is subject to Drug and Alcohol testing in accordance with Federal Regulations.
