Eversource Energy Associate Engineer Maintenance Support (Hybrid) in Hooksett, New Hampshire

The Associate Engineer will work with complex systems and equipment, while providing engineering and technical services to support our growing organization. We offer a unique and exciting opportunity to explore the best of both worlds, working both in the office and the field on a variety of interesting projects. Areas of expertise include designing new substations and infrastructure, analyzing systems and disruptions to service, working with transformers, engineering the electrical protection and control circuits that handles the flow of power, and dealing with acceptance testing of equipment, failures of equipment and analysis of system disturbances.

This is a hybrid role. The first three months are fulltime in the office. Engineer, Maintenance Support.

Essential Functions:

  • Provide day to day and emergent technical engineering support for substation operations. This will include evaluate test results, troubleshooting, issuing specifications for testing and equipment, and recommending solutions.
  • Ensure all regulatory and compliance maintenance is completed on time and supporting documentation is filed correctly.
  • Use a multitude of computer systems to prepare work orders, review construction drawings, ensure the availability of materials, prepare proposals, and verify completed test results.
  • Participate in committees and forums, which may require overnight travel throughout the Eversource Energy System and other locations, to enhance competencies in electric power engineering theory and practice.
  • Review existing maintenance practices and procedures, ensure proper maintenance practices are followed and coordinate training on the industry standards and equipment.
  • Work closely with Transmission & Distribution Engineering and Projects groups to develop solutions.
  • Assist in electric system restoration efforts during storms and emergencies.
  • Design, assist with testing and troubleshooting, and support the installation of various electrical equipment.
  • Determine and issue technical specifications for the procurement and maintenance of substation equipment.
  • Provide engineering expertise to diagnose and repair malfunctioning or defective electrical equipment.
  • Develop documentation for lessons learned and report on findings and solutions.
  • Identify common and generic problems with equipment and implement or recommend appropriate corrective action.
  • Conduct evaluations, research, and development of new technologies, systems, and test equipment.
  • Support project efforts through field crew guidance, process/procedure recommendations, technical modifications, and on-site troubleshooting.
  • Provide technical support for Transmission & Distribution equipment maintenance, testing, and repair.
  • Supporting infrared inspection analysis.
  • Support the development and execution of Capital Projects.
  • Serves as liaison with internal and external customers (i.e., company employees, customers, town/city and state officials); anticipates customer needs; gives high priority to customer satisfaction.
  • Recommends changes to construction methods, standards, and the electric system.
  • Other related duties as assigned.

Technical Knowledge/Skill:

  • Intermediate knowledge of applicable safety regulations and codes (National Electric Safety Code) and design construction standards and regulations.
  • Familiarity with substation equipment such as transformers, circuit breakers, switchgear, reclosers, capacitor banks and associated controls, instrument transformers, reactors, switches, and batteries is desired.
  • Working Knowledge of construction methods and procedures. Knowledge of energy delivery power systems.
  • The ability to learn and utilize available information technologies.
  • Has achieved an intermediate level of technical and professional skills/knowledge in job related areas.
  • Keep abreast of current trends and develops in area(s) of expertise
  • Familiarity with utility regulatory processes and requirements in New Hampshire is preferred.
  • Detailed understanding of NERC reliability and cyber security (CIP) standards is preferred.
  • Advanced skill in reading and interpreting instructions, project scope documents, technical bulletins, diagrams, and prints.
  • Skill in analyzing and solving complex problems with limited information and guidance.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relations with peers, teams, field resources, managers, vendors, and individuals at multiple levels of the organization.
  • Ability to provide technical direction and training to co-workers to ensure accurate, consistent, and timely work product development.
  • Extensive self-motivated and independent research skills.
  • Strong written and spoken communication skills including the ability to effectively articulate technical issues to individuals with different levels of expertise.
  • Strong skills with MS Office applications as well as internet-based tools and resources.
  • Strong customer focus and team leadership skills.
  • Ability and willingness to promote and encourage a positive, cooperative, and efficient work atmosphere.
  • Skilled in meeting deadlines, multi-tasking, prioritization of competing work, and working independently with limited supervision.
  • Ability to review and interpret substation equipment test results including, but not limited to: power factor, SFRA, DLRO, insulation, dissolved gas in oil, etc.

Education/Licenses/Certifications:

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science or related discipline is required.
  • Must hold a valid motor vehicle operator’s license.
  • Ability to obtain Thermographer Certification.

Experience : 0-3 years related experience is required. Substation / electrical testing experience preferred.

Compensation and Benefits:

  • Eversource offers a competitive total rewards program. The annual salary range for this position is $79,130.00 to $87,920.00, plus incentive. Salary is commensurate with your experience. Check out the career site for an overview of benefits.

Working Conditions:

  • Must be available to work emergency restoration assignment as required.
  • Must be available to travel between MA/CT/NH as necessary.
  • Position requires work in an office environment, at customer locations, on construction sites and in the field around various electrical equipment.
  • Requires the use of company provided PPE (Personal Protective Equipment)
  • Must be available to assist/support emergent issues.
