STAN FOWERS FARMS INC Farm/Irrigation Worker (Temporary) in HOOPER, Utah

Temporary Need: 02/26/2024 -- 11/01/2024. Three (3) full-time, seasonal, temporary Farm/Irrigation Workers needed. Requirements: Must have twenty (20) days prior experience with farm/irrigation work and provide the contact information of at least one reference who can verify experience and performance. The worker must crouch, bend, and lift and carry items weighing up to 100 pounds in the course of performing required activities. Wage is $16.34/hour. Hours: 48 hours/wk, 6:00am - 3:00pm, Mon-Sat. Job duties may include occasional night shifts, sometimes spanning two calendar days, due to irrigation needs. Work hours may vary and there may be periods when little or no work will be available due to weather, time of year, and the requirements of the cropping program. Location: Work will be performed in Hooper, UT (including fields/worksites within a 6-mile radius). Delivery/Storage worksites, are located within a 7-mile radius of the place of employment. All places of employment are owned/controlled by the employer's worksites in Weber and Davis Counties, UT. Duties: Worker will be required to perform a variety of duties related to the production of onions, wheat, corn, alfalfa, and grass. The majority of the work activities during the overall contract period, however, will be related to general farm work. General Farm Work will include the following responsibilities: maintain, drive, attach, and operate farm implements/tractors/equipment to till soil, plant, cultivate, fertilize, and harvest crops; make minor mechanical adjustments and repairs on farm machinery; may mix and/or spray chemicals (according to appropriate restrictive use laws, when/if applicable); remove undesirable and excess growth from crops or farm grounds; weed onions using farm hand tools to remove weeds from onion fields; repair onion boxes; paint/repair/maintain farm structures; replace/repair/install fencing; perform general cleanup of farm areas; drive, load/unload trucks; lift/stack/haul 80 pound bales of alfalfa on a sustained basis; operate vehicle, motor bike, or all-terrain vehicle in the course of performing duties; transport crops to market. Irrigation duties will include the following: Drip Irrigation: walk behind tractor to assist in installing/laying drip irrigation; move drip hoses; maintain/repair drip irrigation; flush lines; remove drip irrigation and layflat from fields prior to harvest; ensure layflat spools correctly when removing from field; remove drip tape; lay flat pipes; connect pipes; check alignment of pipe and adjust for proper water distribution; attach lines to water supply; turn on pump; turn valves to start flow of water; disassemble lines and carry pipes across fields at specified intervals; move pipes through freshly irrigated crops and/or plowed fields where mud may be deep at times; lift and carry pipe sections weighing approximately 40 pounds on a sustained basis. Flood Irrigation: shovel and pack dirt in low spots of embankment or cut trenches in high areas to direct water flow; close gate in ditch/pipe when bordered section is flooded; open gate or connect pipe to underground pipe system that releases water flow into reservoir or ditch; siphon water from flooded reservoir or ditch to channel water into designated areas; shovel or hoe soil to clear ditches/furrows and build embankments to appropriately channel water; mix and apply proper solutions to fill holes/cracks in pipes, ditches, and spillways, and make minor repairs to metal, concrete, and wooden frameworks in pipe and ditch valves and gates; lay out plastic ditch and punch holes allowing water to run; pick up and discard plastic ditch. Other Irrigation Duties: remove irrigation equipment from storage and lay out/place in predetermined patterns in fields; lubricate, adjust, repair, and replace parts such as sprinkler heads and drive chains using hand tools; disassemble, service, and store irrigation equipment after irrigation season. Duties related to the H arvesting of Onions will include: pull onions from the ground; even out rows for harvest; sort produce according to grade, color and size; discard diseased/rotting/inferior product and foreign matter; cleanup around conveyors and worksite; place produce in containers/boxes/buckets or on designated conveyors; aid operator in correct machine performance; tend/monitor onion machine to ensure proper movement of product; stack produce on pallets; lift and stack produce boxes weighing 75 pounds on a sustained basis; prepare crops for shipment; transport crops to onion storage facility. Terms and conditions of employment: Workers must be able to perform all duties with accuracy and efficiency while working at a sustained, vigorous pace; Workers must adhere to all safety rules as instructed by the supervisor and will be required to keep all property and farm buildings clean; workers must be willing to perform tasks capably and efficiently without close supervision; absences from work and/or failure to perform required tasks will not be tolerated. The employer will provide, at no cost to the worker, Workers' Compensation coverage or private insurance which is equal to Workers' Compensation laws for comparable employment. All tools, supplies and equipment necessary to perform the duties assigned will be provided at no cost or deposit to the worker. The employer guarantees to offer the worker employment for a total number of work days equal to at least 3/4's of the total work period beginning with the first workday after the arrival of the worker at the place of employment or advertised contractual first day of need. Whichever is later to occur, and ending on the expiration date specified. If the worker completes 50% of the work contract period, the employer shall pay the worker the cost incurred by the worker for transportation and daily subsistence from the place from which the worker has come to work for the employer. Subsistence costs will be paid at the daily rate of $15.46 per each 24-hour period of time that the worker is in travel status. A workers entitlement to reimbursement for reasonable subsistence costs in excess of the daily rate per day shall be limited to actual expenses not exceeding $59.00 per day, based on receipts.The offered wage equals or exceeds the highest of the prevailing wage that is issued by DOL for the time period the work is performed. This job is in connection with a future H-2A labor certification application.
