Grand County Equipment Operator II in Hot Sulphur Springs, Colorado
JOB SUMMARY This position is responsible for operating a variety of heavy and light equipment in maintaining County roads and bridges for accessible safe and efficient public travel. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS Operates front-end loader for the purpose of loading trucks with sand and gravel, cleaning ditches, moving soil and waste, installing culvert and cattle guards, plowing snow, clearing snow slides. Operates snowplow truck for plowing and sanding duties. Learns to operate motor grader for grading gravel and dirt-surfaced roads, spreading materials, pulling ditches, and plowing snow. Operates dump trucks and roller for compaction of road surfaces. Gains knowledge of asphalt equipment and asphalt procedures (crack sealer/roller/asphalt patching). Operates water truck for dust control on construction projects. Drives pick-up trucks for checking road conditions, hauling light loads, parts pickup and other errands. Prepares records on activities and receipts from operations Learns to operate and operates crane, dozer, loaders and backhoe. Operates crack sealer equipment on asphalt roads. Performs preventive and general maintenance on all equipment, including greasing, changing oil and filters; checking battery and coolant levels, lights and tires; adjusting brakes and repairing and rotating tires, and washing vehicles. Builds, installs, and repairs bridges, fences, and cattle guards. Welds broken equipment and fabricates equipment parts when required. Performs manual labor tasks for clearing trees and other materials from roadway, patching asphalt roads, shoveling materials, and others Responsible for the installation and repair of road signage per MUTCD Standards May be required to respond to local emergency situations i.e. fires or flooding. Ability to assist Airports or Fairgrounds as needed. Recognizes any mechanical problems. Performs other duties as assigned.
