Job Description Summary

This position will support the College of Computing with outstanding customer service support and tasks related to the overall smooth operation in the college. The Dean’s Office represents the academic units within the college and this position will positively represent these areas

Essential Duties & Responsibilities (other duties may be assigned)

  • Provide exceptional customer service to all walk-in traffic into the college office.

  • Provide administrative support for daily college functions, including answering phones and directing all questions; receive and route mail; compose routine correspondence.

  • Assist the Director of Finance and Data Operations with purchasing and maintaining office supplies, promotional inventory and property tags.

  • Plan and coordinator all college events, assist department coordinators with other events, including catering orders, room reservations etc.

  • Assist faculty and staff with other administrative tasks as needed.

  • Maintain calendars for conference rooms, reserve rooms upon request.

  • Assist department advisors with maintaining prospective student packets. Review and begin the process to update content for all brochures and printed materials.

  • Assist department coordinators with EPAFs and various office tasks.

  • Create flyers and informational posters for departmental events.

  • Digitizing department and college records and files.

  • Commit to learning about continuous improvement strategies and applying them to everyday work. Actively engage in university continuous improvement initiatives.

  • Integrate safety practices into daily activities.

  • Other duties and projects as assigned

Required Education, Certifications, Licensures (minimum requirements)

  • High school diploma, or an equivalent combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge and abilities can be acquired.

Required Experience (minimum requirements)

  • Two years of experience in an administrative clerical support position.

  • Two years of experience using personal computers and basic software packages.

Desirable Education and/or Experience

  • Associate of Arts degree

  • Advanced computer skills

  • Experience in a customer service setting.

  • Willingness to learn new process/procedures.

  • Interpersonal and written/oral communication skills.

  • Demonstrated ability to organize and prioritize work assignments independently and take initiatives to solve problems.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of proper grammar, spelling, and punctuation.

  • Demonstrated ability to work with accuracy and attention to detail.

  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with frequent and multiple interruptions.

  • Demonstrated ability to use good judgment when dealing with confidential information.

  • Demonstrated ability to take the initiative to solve problems.

  • Demonstrated ability to communicate and work effectively with faculty, staff and students.

  • Demonstrated commitment to contribute to a safe work environment.

Desirable Knowledge, Skills, and/or Abilities

  • Experience in an administrative clerical support position

  • Knowledge of Michigan Tech

  • Demonstrated success in, or potential future contributions to, working with persons from diverse backgrounds, creating a sense of belonging, and fostering a fair, objective, welcoming place to work for persons with a wide variety of personal characteristics and viewpoints.

  • The noise level in the work environment is usually low to moderate.
