Roles, Responsibilities and Expectations This position is responsible for product testing; test equipment maintenance and calibration; results analysis; reporting and overall product quality in the Housatonic operation. This position is responsible for ensuring the collection and testing of samples from incoming and in process materials, ensuring quality issues are evaluated and resolved in accordance with customer expectations and specifications. Responsibilities Raw Materials: - Maintain a safe work environment. Maintain specifications in a current condition, initiate revisions when raw material properties are deliberately changed and agreed upon by Purchasing and our suppliers. Works with Suppliers and Key Customers to ensure a high quality product. - Train QC Utility personnel on test procedures and sampling procedures for QC inspection. - Test samples using prescribed techniques and checklists. - Collects and tests representative samples from lots of incoming materials. - Maintain QC area in an orderly, neat and organized condition. - Responsible for weekly Calibration of all QC Instruments. - Responsible for accuracy of data recorded on all shifts. - Record and compare test results with specifications for each grade. - Maintain accurate and up to date data collection records in Quality Windows. - Maintain test equipment in good working condition. - Keep necessary test samples and accurate records. Ability to locate data and samples as needed. - Maintain adequate quantities of lab supplies and order as needed. - Accurately evaluate and assess quality issues driving technicians to make informed decision regarding resolving quality issues for our customers. - Prepares, collects and ships test samples to suppliers, customers and Holyoke branch. - Collects, analyzes, reports on and stores customer COA data. - Understands supplier defects, supplier roll numbering systems, inspection techniques, potential frequency and risk. - Trains on and communicates supplier quality testing and overall supplier quality system. Process Control: - Responsible for overall product quality, quality training, test methods and instrumentation, quality testing, results analysis, communication and recording results. - Conduct and record in process test results. - Inform Operations Manager and/or Shift Supervisor of questionable material and test results. - Understand hold ticket, waiver and disposition system. Forward necessary samples and reports as necessary (raw materials, WIP and finished goods). - Re-test samples as necessary to verify results - Train others in QC procedures, testing, recording and reporting. - Help determine root cause of product defects and out of spec materials. Key Competencies: - Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. - Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. - Ability to work independently with minimal direction. - Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to read a ruler. - Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios and proportional to practical situation. - Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to understand and perform a variety of tests and accurately interpret results. - Good organizational skills, communication skills, customer service and detail oriented. Education/Experience: - High School Diploma or equivalent; or three to five years related experience and/or training or equivalent combination of education and experience. - Experience in Statistical Process Control; statistical data and mathematical analysis skills - High level of computer literacy (PowerPoint, Excel); especially data manipulation in spreadsheet and database systems, SharePoint and Quality Windows a plus.
