Houston Methodist Biomedical Equipment Technician I - Full Time, Days in Houston, Texas
At Houston Methodist, the Biomedical Equipment Technician I position is responsible for providing technical support for general medical equipment and conduct safety inspections for the institution and to meet regulatory guidelines through the analysis, maintenance, calibration, installation, and upgrades on assigned medical equipment. This position also provides technical support on general medical equipment to our customers within the organization, as assigned. The Biomedical Equipment Technician I position works under relatively close supervision of a higher level Biomedical Equipment Technicians (BMETs) and/or supervisor and conducts work, provides records, and maintains a database of scheduled maintenance, corrective maintenance, and safety testing in accordance with manufacturer, regulatory, and department guidelines.

SERVICE ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Partners with higher level BMETs to work with hospital departments, communicating the status of repairs and ensuring minimal equipment downtime.
Participates in projects, such as inspections and installation of new medical equipment, as appropriate for skill level. Seeks out additional information and reference materials, or guidance, to gain clarification to make effective repair.
Responds in a timely manner to customer requests, and identifies and anticipates customer requirements, expectations, and needs.
QUALITY/SAFETY ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Assists in maintaining and repairing all assigned patient medical equipment as per manufacturer established specifications.
Assists with capturing accurate and complete documentation of all equipment support activities performed in database completely, accurately, and on time as per established guidelines.
Utilizes tools and test equipment appropriately to perform the job in an efficient, effective and safe manner. Keeps an inventory of assigned tools and test equipment.
Meets regulatory and department guidelines, such as PM compliance for assigned medical equipment at a minimum of 95%, and life support equipment at 100% each month. Meets department goal for Open Service Report Average.
FINANCE ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Meets productivity goal of 75% of worked hours documented in the appropriate system.
Utilizes resources with cost effectiveness and value creation in mind. Self-motivated to independently manage time effectively, minimizing incidental overtime, and prioritize daily tasks, assisting coworkers as needed.

Participates in department projects and process improvement initiatives. Generates and communicates ideas and suggestions that improve quality or service.

EDUCATION
- Associate degree in Biomedical Technology (BMET), Electronics Engineering or related field OR successful completion of Military BMET training
WORK EXPERIENCE
- No experience if associate BMET degree or one year of experience in healthcare maintaining electronics, electromechanical or medical equipment for all other degrees

Effective knowledge of basic computer hardware and software use

Entry level skills in the use of standard test equipment and tools use for the maintenance of clinical equipment
Ability to complete work within designated time frames
Demonstrates knowledge and behaviors related to environmental, employee, or patient safety requirements
