Description

The Coordinator, Custodial Services is responsible for assigning duties, inspecting work, and investigating complaints regarding janitorial services and taking immediate corrective action. Secure and assure that all equipment is maintained and in working order as well as make sure buildings have sufficient janitorial supplies by taking periodic inventories of supplies and materials. In addition, will train, discipline, and recommend dismissals of employees, act as liaison between building occupants or administrators and supervisors to effectively communicate all directives from managers, building occupants and administrators to janitorial staff.

Duties:

  • Develop the scope of work and manage daily custodial contracted services.

  • Prepare shift time sheets and records absences, arrivals, and departures, for processing through the departments payroll system, work with scheduling department and post all overtimes assignments.

  • Train all employees in housekeeping practices and on the proper use of all custodial equipment. Evaluate employee performance and take appropriate personnel action to remedy remedial work or performance.

  • Evaluate work areas for effectiveness of housekeeping and take corrective measures for deficient work.

  • Responsible for overseeing daily housekeeping care of administrative offices and suites, classrooms, common areas, laboratories and restrooms as well as for the daily care and inventory of the custodial office, break room and custodial closet.

  • Perform training, mentoring, motivating, and management of custodians.

  • Implement and follow safety regulations. Initiate all accident reports and conduct investigation of accident causes. Respond to all accident reports and correct any violations or conditions that may be potentially harmful or fatal to the staff. Follow MSDS instructions.

  • Order custodial supplies to ensure proper levels of equipment are in stock for daily use.

  • Prepare and administer performance assessments on custodial staff and perform related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Required:

  1. High School diploma or GED

  2. Minimum five years of custodial maintenance experience in a university, hospital or hotel setting.

  3. Minimum two years of custodial lead/supervisory experience in a university, hospital or a commercial setting.

  4. Current, valid Texas Driver's License.

  5. Must possess the ability to use all assigned equipment, tools and supplies and to teach others in respective use.

  6. Have familiarity with safety programs and possess the ability to teach them to the staff.

  7. Ability to communicate effectively with students, employees and management.

  8. Ability to evaluate different cleaning techniques and utilize the best and most productive methods, materials and equipment.

  9. Knowledge on buffing, stripping and carpet cleaning operations.

  10. Must be able to lift, carry and push heavy loads and safely use a ladder.

  11. Ability to maintain custodial equipment.

Desired:

Associate’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Bilingual: English/Spanish
