CyrusOne Database Administrator in Houston, Texas
The Database Administrator is primarily responsible for the database platform supporting CyrusOne’s Operational applications running on Microsoft Windows and Linux Operating systems. The databases are hosted on a running on a mix of MS SQL, Postgres, MySQL. Optimizing performance, and centralizing administration will be a core competency as will be overseeing the maintenance and security measures of company databases. As a secondary role, the Database Administrator is also responsible for assisting in Systems Engineering and support of, Windows systems, monitoring systems, and other projects and integration as these support the Database environment.
Responsibilities:
Oversee the planning, design and implementation of application database and relational database system engineering projects
Represent CyrusOne in a professional manner while interacting with internal customers, vendors and partners
Understand the company’s backup requirements
Document all aspects of CyrusOne’s Infrastructure environment
Install and configure vendor backup software products across a variety of hardware platforms
Troubleshoot product, database, and environment issues.
Familiarity with industry best practices and emerging trends in SQL Server database administration
Collect inventory of the current production database, storage, and backup infrastructure using automated tools or customer supplied information.
Server troubleshooting: disk usage, CPUs, SQL Query issues, SQL monitoring (job and server), I/O bottlenecks, user issues, etc
Backup Restore: Veeam agent and snapshot backups, SQL Maintenance jobs, Identify and project growth rates for backup systems. Other backup and restore tasks as it pertains to the configuration of servers and databases, and preserving data integrity
Security: Vulnerability remediation, patching, version upgrades of SQL, client libraries, and underlying OS, implementing encryption where applicable, maintaining SQL server lifecycle
Prepare performance tuning analysis, capacity planning, workload modeling and forecasting as well as OS and SQL Server version upgrades and recommendations. Develop, implement, and manage ETL processes to ensure optimization and best practices
Provide “quick win” recommendations that can be implemented immediately with little capital investment
Database Administration responsibilities surrounding multiple platforms:
Implementation, Support, Troubleshooting, and problem resolution of SQL and OS problems
Participate in On-Call rotation
Qualifications:
3-5+ years, IT experience in a high tech distributed environment, data center environment highly preferred
Strong SQL, PL/SQL, and SQL development experience
Proven experience in managing mid to large scale SQL Server databases in a production environment
In-depth knowledge of SQL Server database administration, including database design, installation, configuration, and maintenance
Proven experience with complex software
Strong understanding of troubleshooting techniques
Strong project management skills
Mature organization and time management skills
Excellent documentation, communication and interpersonal skills
Accomplishes tasks with minimal supervision
Some travel may be required (varies depending on business – 10%)
Highly organized multi-tasking abilities
Ability to direct projects effectively to find an efficient solution
Education/Certifications:
Master’s or bachelor’s degree in data engineering, computer science or a related technical degree preferred
Certification in SQL Server administration (e.g., MCSA: SQL Server or MCSE: Data Management and Analytics) is preferred
