How you will create an impact

Energy Risk Engineers are responsible for working with account engineers, underwriters, clients, and brokers to help identify and improve risk for various energy sectors, including but not limited to: Construction All Risk (CAR), Erection All Risk (EAR), Power Generation, Renewable Energy, Oil and Petroleum, Chemical, Pharmaceutical, Upstream and Mining. The Energy Field Risk Engineers are integral in allowing AIG to better understand exposures and contribute specialized knowledge to help in identifying and mitigating risks.

What you will need to succeed

  • Bachelor’s degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics  

  • Minimum fifteen (15) years of industry experience in CAR/EAR or specialized risk engineering experience in these fields

  • Knowledge of a wide range of occupancies, exposures per best business practices

  • Strong ability to identify, analyze and solve problems as well as the ability to learn rapidly, adapt quickly to change, exercise influence, and manage and prioritize multiple concurrent projects

  • Ability to work in a dynamic, rapidly changing environment, adapting to changing requirements and collaborating with a wide range of colleagues to quickly deliver solutions

  • Superb verbal and written communication skills

  • Position is expected to travel and attend meetings at various offices, fields, plants, facilities and construction sites 

Job Responsibilities:  

  • Contribute to profitable growth through effective risk selection, alignment with underwriting management strategies, and driving targeted risk improvement.

  • Manage all engineering activities including planning and monitoring work, development of marketing skills and adherence to engineering guidelines.

  • Work collaboratively with all members of the engineering and underwriting leadership teams as well as distribution, Legal and Claims departments.

  • Partner with Distribution and Underwriting to enhance client relationships and promote engineering capabilities.

  • Work closely with underwriting to obtain and maintain clients.

  • Ensure your team has the appropriate knowledge and skillsets to be effective in delivering services to underwriting and our clients.

  • Manage training and personnel development within your team and establish and maintain a training and develop plan.

  • Implement the quality control of field surveys and account reviews completed by your team.

  • Participate in and lead zonal audits.

  • Assist with/Lead regional or global projects.

  • Provide and create engineering data system support/guidance and stay abreast of system related issues within zone.

  • Coordinate engineering data system UAT (user acceptance testing) within region.

  • Provide assistance to Head of Risk Consulting.

  • Help create a culture that promotes collaboration, innovation, diversity and inclusion; successfully conduct talent acquisition, employee engagement and performance monitoring/evaluation work.

  • Serve as role model to all colleagues, leading by example as a leader of the team.

  • Lead and provide clear direction for Field and Account engineering tasks including but not limited to:

  • Completing account reviews

  • Conducting surveys

  • Implement the Client Service Process

  • Managing risk improvements

Strengths for the position:

  • Experienced in building relationships externally and internally and managing key stakeholder relationships.

  • The individual must be able to make decisions with and without established guidelines and to provide technical support to account engineers, underwriters, and clients.   

Hard Skills:

  • Industry experience with real world knowledge of the challenges in the Energy and Constuction sectors.

  • Ability to perform inspections of Energy and Construction facilities, both visually and with instruments.

  • Ability to read construction drawings, diagrams, printed materials.

  • Possess at minimum of at least one year of driving experience with a valid driver’s license.  

Additional Requirements:

  • Ability to perform physical activities required for the position (i.e., be on feet and walking 8-10 hours a day, safely work at heights). 

  • Ability to understand and appreciate safety training specific to numerous workplace and construction hazards. 

  • Ability to safely use ladders, scaffolds, lifts and other access equipment.

  • Ability to lift and carry materials and equipment up to 50 lbs.

  • Ability to perform work in the outdoors.

  • Ability to wear safety equipment required for the position (hard hat, safety shoes, safety glasses and hearing protection).

  • Ability to safely work in a variety of occupationally hazardous locations.

  • Ability to type at a computer for several hours a day.

  • Ability to drive and safely operate a motor vehicle.
