Hunton Trane a division of Hunton Group in Houston, TX (www.huntongroup.com), has a new and exciting opportunity to join our organization as a Senior Building Automation Systems (BAS) Controls Technician/Technical Team Leader (HVAC). The selected candidate will oversee the commissioning, programming, troubleshooting and servicing of projects, while supervising technicians, providing support, and fostering team development.

Responsibilities:

  • Commissioning, programming, setting up graphics, communications link, end to end testing, troubleshooting and servicing on assigned projects.

  • Documenting point to point verification, sequence of operations validation and job close out requirements.

  • Represents the company by serving as the direct customer contact and is responsible for servicing products and equipment on assigned projects, ensuring customer satisfaction by identifying, diagnosing and repairing equipment and systems at customer's location.

  • Coordinates with team leader and customer to precisely understand requirements for all on-site installation and repairs by extensively examining building layouts, forecasting issues, gathering materials and synchronizing on-site work.

  • Directly supervises and responsible for the onboarding, coaching, mentoring, and developing of control technicians.

  • Manages performance by monitoring controls technicians' effectiveness and efficiency in relation to customer service and associate objectives.

  • Maintain and improve current tasks related to being a top tier BAS Technician.

  • Ability to lead and own a project from start to completion, while maintaining a strong level of communication with technicians, project managers, customers, and others.

  • Provide technician support for all projects, as specified.

  • Lead monthly technician meetings and weekly communications with all technicians.

  • Help enforce technician standards for efficiency, graphics, closeout, and daily improvements.

  • Supporting job fulfillment planning with goal being tech consistency per job.

  • Conducts mid-year and year-end performance evaluations and yearly development plans for direct reports.

  • Assist in reviewing projects and making sure technician standards, project standards, and graphic standards are present.

  • Report any project concerns or issues that would prevent installation from matching what customers are expecting.

  • Review all control drawings for projects that require Field Transition Meetings.

  • Attend Project meetings and Field Transition Meetings.

  • Provide a strong link for the field technicians and office personnel.

  • Provide mentoring and coaching to other technicians.

  • Ability to provide troubleshooting and support to all parties involved on projects.

  • Provide high-level customer service to front end users, contractors, subcontractors and all other stakeholders.

  • Provide insight to future training sessions and development opportunities for technicians.

  • Keep current on Trane products concerning installation, operation, maintenance, service, and repair of direct digital control systems.

  • Continually enforces safety to the highest standards and maintains security and accountability of the company issues and procured assets by recording use, wear, conditions.

  • Displays team effort and dedication to customer by maintaining flexibility to work overtime and weeks as the business requires, including occasional overnight stays.

    Qualifications:

  • Associate degree in HVAC, BAS or other related field, or equal certification and work experience, and typically at least 7 years of experience in HVAC/Controls. Technical School or formal training is preferred.

  • Operating knowledge of Microsoft office software and working proficiency with handheld computer (i.e. Smartphone, iPad).

  • Knowledge of low voltage electricity, electronics (board level troubleshooting), direct digital controls, and building control techniques.

  • A desire to push for personal growth along with providing assistance for others to grow and develop.

  • Ability to provide leadership and mentoring to all levels of experienced team members.

  • An understanding of the contracting business and able to transition professionally from an office setting to a construction site.

  • Strong standing with customer base, internally and externally.

  • Ability to stay organized, communicate in a timely manner.

  • Must possess a valid driver's license.

    Additional Requirements and Environmental Exposure:

  • Must be able to safely and legally operate a vehicle using a seat belt.

  • Must be able to wear helmets, safety goggles, fall protection harness and safety boots to safely perform job duties.

  • Must be able to twist the trunk of your body 90 degrees in each direction.

  • Must be able to squat and touch the floor with both hands.

  • Must be able to reach your hands over your head.

  • Must be able to stand on concrete surfaces for extended periods, routinely up to 4 hours.

  • This position is highly physical and requires regular use of hands, fingers, walking, stooping, kneeling and climbing ladders. It requires employees to regularly lift and or move up to 10 lbs. and frequently lift and/or move up to 40 lbs. (may occasionally lift and/or move more than 40 lbs. with special approval.)

  • Must be able to safely use a ladder with a 375 lb. total weight limit, while wearing equipment weighing up to 50 lbs.

  • Must be able to maneuver access areas, as small as 30" vertical x 45" horizontal.

  • Must be able to comfortably and routinely access rooftops with extension and/or fixed ladders at heights of 15' to 20', and occasionally, up to 50 feet +.

  • This role may be exposed to variable weather conditions, moving mechanical parts, heights, risk of electrical shock, noisy operating equipment and other variable environmental conditions based on location.
