Job Summary:

The Manager of Sourcing Engineering is responsible for leading strategic supply chain activities with a focus on outsourcing selection and the establishment of an optimal supply base to support all Textron Systems’ businesses. This includes supporting comprehensive and new sourcing business strategies, providing engineering and manufacturing input (technical producibility/DFX, evaluations, readiness assessments, etc.) to support new product development in collaboration with internal customers, building and acting as the critical conduit to set up the supply base readiness for execution. This leader will work collaboratively with their team across multiple functions and domains to understand the needs of the business and drive execution of sourcing selection and establishment proactively and to mitigate business risk and to protect the financial interests of the enterprise. The role will require significant investment in customer and supplier relationship management, provide outstanding customer and inter-personal service, clear and timely communications and facilitate clear paths to successful team closure on sourcing engineering assignments is a critical .

Key responsibilities:

  • Develop and lead a high-performing sourcing engineering team of technical engineering/manufacturing and supplier management professionals

  • Partner with Strategic Sourcing and Supplier Development to progress Supply Chain 2.0 initiative, with specific focus on the Establishment stage of the lifecycle

  • Balance sourcing engineering requirements workload across all Domains with a focus on high-impact, high-value solutions for the overall business

  • Establish sourcing engineering strategies balanced across all domains.

  • Work closely with program management, engineering, and operations to ensure meeting the needs of the business in a fast paced and dynamic environment

  • Partner with Strategic Sourcing, Supplier Management Engineers, Buyers, Sub-Contract, and Quality Engineering to ensure a smooth transition to the identified source enabling seamless execution via leading effective Technical Interchange Meetings (TIM).

  • Engage with the internal customers to support the development of business opportunities, collaborate with Strategic Sourcing Managers to provide an effective, stable, and successful roadmap for Partnerships and Suppliers for Supply Chain

  • Provide engineering input (technical producibility/DFX, evaluations, readiness assessments, etc.) to support new product development with internal customers, building and acting as the critical conduit to set up the supply base

  • Perform outsourcing Manufacturing Readiness Assessments (MRA) as appropriate for suppliers and partners.

  • Identify, build, manage and maintain a network of capable supplier sources.

  • Drive the optimization of design for supplier manufacturability, design for supplier assembly, outsourcing design to cost & quality, and further support prototyping validation/readiness leading to a successful product roadmap for stable transition to production (TTP)

  • Participate in other upstream activities such as Bill of Material development, Plan for every Part initiative, inclusion of emerging manufacturing technologies, cost/ should cost estimating, and support to configuration control activities

  • Collaborate with Design Engineering Team/IPT, Engineering Prototype and Test Teams, Manufacturing Engineering and Quality to complete initial protype builds, analyze results, and propose refinement of engineering designs.

  • Manage the design sourcing demand from internal customers for the Rapid Procurement Process (RPP)

  • Travel up to 50% of time and be willing to travel internationally if require

Qualifications

Required qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree required. Preferred degrees are Mechanical Engineering, or Electrical Engineering or Manufacturing Engineering.

  • 5 years’ experience in design environment.

  • 5 years’ experience in a manufacturing environment or hands-on role.

  • Preferred 2 years’ experience in Supply Chain.

  • Preferred Six Sigma Black Belt certified.

  • Preferred Green Belt certified.

  • Preferred PMP certified.

  • High integrity, credibility and character

  • Proven leadership skills and a strong communicator and listener

  • Cultural flexibility and adaptability, collaborates well across organizations

  • Must be able to obtain Security Clearance

  • Ability to manage risk, scheduled and action lists

Preferred qualifications

  • Government contracting experience

  • Supporting new product development

  • Master’s Degree in related field

  • Previous experience with Lean principles or Six Sigma certification

  • CPM and/or CPIM

  • Technical and/or Manufacturing Operations experience or education

The pay range should be used as a general guide only. Compensation is based upon candidate experience and qualifications, as well as market and business considerations.

In compliance with the local pay transparency law, the pay range for this position is

$117,800 - $179,800 per year.
