Job Description

SUMMARY

The Senior Preparation Technician, Minerals is responsible for proper preparation of mineral samples for analysis in accordance with all applicable standards and company procedures by performing the following duties. Takes on additional responsibility as Team Lead in the absence of the Supervisor/Manager.

JOB FUNCTIONS

• Works under established direction, with little to no direct supervision, expected to perform the following job functions with a high degree of independence.

• Prepares mineral samples (i.e., coal, iron ore, limestone, petroleum coke, etc.) by crushing samples in accordance with required published standards, using various sample crusher models.

• Transfers and labels samples with identifying data, and associated paperwork.

• Fillies and locates samples.

• Performs routine and preventive maintenance on all Preparation equipment.

• Accurately records all data associated with the preparation of samples.

• Ensures compliance with all required local and federal safety processes and procedures while collecting, screening or delivering samples.

• Ensures all equipment and containers are organized and cleaned before and after use.

• Ensures all personal protective equipment (PPE) relevant for tasks is worn at all times.

• Ensures compliance with all required local and federal safety processes and procedures.

• May also have Laboratory or Field Operations responsibilities, as required by business needs.

• Provides technical advice and support to the Preparation Technicians, may train Junior Technicians as required.

• Serves as a Team Leader when Supervisor and or Manager are not present.

• Trains, motivates and monitors staff during shift.

• Assists staff to carry out and complete tasks according to established work procedures.

• Work in partnership with other Technicians to solve client problems to ensure quality and customer satisfaction standards are met.

• Assists Supervisor and or Manager, making sure that each employee in the team has sufficient information, resources and materials to do their job safely.

• May have Preparation or Laboratory responsibilities, as required by business needs.

• Directly responsible for their area housekeeping and cleanliness on a daily basis.

• Accountable for routine and non-routine equipment maintenance.

• Directly responsible for ensuring all safety equipment is worn and safety procedures are followed while performing work, being on site or delivering samples.

• Adheres to in ternal standards, policies and procedures.

• Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Required:

• High School or equivalent

• 3+ years working in Industrial or Laboratory or Field Services setting with experience following strict safety standards

LICENSES / CERTIFICATIONS

• A valid and current Driver's license may be required if the role re uires driving a company vehicle.

• May be required to obtain a TWIC (Transportation Worker Identification Card)

• May be required to obtain 24-hour surface Mine Safety and Health Administration (MSHA) certificate, training is available through SGS.

KNOWLEDGE / SKILLS / ABILITIES

• Language Skills: Intermediate English required, Advanced preferred

• Mathematical Skills: Basic required, Intermediate preferred

• Reasoning Skills/Abilities: Advanced level required, uses logical and practical approach to solve problems

• Computer Skills: MS Office (Word, Excel) - Intermediate user proficiency required

• Ability to effectively communicate (in writing or verbally), presenting information individually or in small group situations to internal or external customers

• Ability to follow directions ensuring the end results are accurate and completed with the required timeframe

• Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations

• Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals

• Ability to work independently and under moderate supervision

• Team player attitude, customer care focus

• Ability to lead more junior employees

TRAVEL

• Local day travel may be required.

EQUIPMENT

• This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, printers, and phones.

• This role may use sample prep equipment that may include Jaw Crusher, Bowl & Disc Pulverizing Mills, Pressure Filters, Riffle Splitters, Compressed Air, Hammer Mill Crushers, Ovens, Balances, and basic sampling tools.
