Collins Aerospace is seeking an Associate Director to lead our Tactical Communications Maintenance Applications (TCMA) Engineering Department , a nd to be the e ngineering site lead at our Huntsville, A labama facility .  Th e TCMA team is responsible for all aspects of the software development lifecycle for their cognizant products , including requirements definition and analysis, software design, development, integration, test, verification, and validation. This team supports numerous programs and projects spanning a cross our Military Avionics and Helicopters (MA&H) business, including both U.S. domestic and international projects.

This position reports to the Senior Director of MA&H Engineering in the Avionics business unit of Collins Aerospace.  This role is for a leader of leaders, program chiefs , and architects.  Success in this role is measured through exceptional program performance, combined with leading and developing our people, to support the near and long-term business objectives .  This individual will collaborate closely with MA&H Value Stream Leadership , Business Development, as well as numerous other E ngineering department leaders located in our other facilities .  

What You Will Do:

  • Extensive understanding and experience with successful avionics software development programs, including certification to DO-178B/C

  • Experience in the pursuit, proposal, and TINA-compliant bidding process

  • A demonstrated ability to coach and mentor team leaders and to be a subject matter expert in the talent development process

  • Experience with managing scope, schedule, and budget for software development  

  • E x perience with risk and opportunity management

  • Identify , recruit, retain , and develop engineering talent across the spectrum of entry-level engineers to engineering architects and managers

  • Build and leverage networks within the department, within Avionics, within Collins Aerospace, and with customers  

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills  

  • Partner with Huntsville site leadership team to create a positive culture focused on execution excellence , continuous improvement, and a sense of belonging

    Qualifications You Must Have:

  • Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) unless prohibited by local laws/regulations and minimum 12 years prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 10 years of experience or in absence of a degree, 16 years of relevant experience

Qualifications We Prefer:

  • 8+ years of proven project execution skills in managing large avionics software teams using earned value methodologies

  • Demonstrated engineering technical experience on complex a vionics programs

  • Ability to evaluate and report overall engineering performance to plan as appropriate

  • Ability to analyze data and determine appropriate actions to correct execution problems before they impact the overall program

  • Ability to train and mentor engineering leaders

  • A strong communicator with others, both written and verbal

  • Knowledge of Collins Aerospace Avionics Engineering processes and tools, and the ability to manage complex, organizationally matrixed projects

Onsite: Employees who are working in Onsite roles will work primarily onsite. This includes all production and maintenance employees, as they are essential to the development of our products.

The salary range for this role is 143,000 USD - 287,000 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate’s work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.
