Insight Global System Safety Engineer - Battery in Huntsville, Alabama

Job Description

A client in Huntsville, AL is looking for a System Safety Engineer who will support the Marshall Space Flight Center on multiple programs particularly focused on battery safety and compliance.

Responsibilities:

-Develop and maintain safety documentation and procedures.

-Develop and maintain battery management system (BMS) specifications.

-Adhere to customers compliance needs related to battery usage and scientific payloads.

-Judge and evaluate the design and integration of batteries in line with safety requirements.

-Complete risk assessments/hazard analyses for the mission with specific attention to battery analysis.

-Judge and evaluate battery suppliers on product quality, processes, and performance in line with requirements.

-Explore battery safety incidents like root cause analysis, and advise on preventative measures for future occurrences.

Skills and Requirements

Must Haves:

-Bachelors degree or Masters degree in a STEM field preferably mechanical engineering, physics, etc.

-5+ years experience (9+ years of experience in lieu of degree)

-Working knowledge of JSC 20793 and AFSPCMAN91-710V3

-Experience communicating with clients and vendors in relation to battery design for space applications.

-Experience performing FMEA, FTA, ad other safety analyses. Plusses:

-Experience designing and developing battery material like performance/safety and process tracking specifically with lithium polymer and lithium ion cells.

-Familiar with processes involving lithium batteries like production processes, test equipment and procedures.

-Experience performing statistical analysis of results, capabilities, ad design of experiments related to the production of lithium batteries.

-Knowledge of space flight safety concerns and other battery technology.

-ISO/AS9100 and NASA-STD-8719.12

-Knowledge of root cause corrective action process. null
