IME Automation Senior Controls Engineer in HURRICANE, Utah

IME Automation is looking for a Senior Level Controls Engineer. IME Automation develops and builds custom automation systems. This new engineer will be responsible for designing, building, and programming control systems we need for our customers. They will also be asked to help us improve the effectiveness of the workforce by developing and implementing process improvement projects and mentor both mechanical engineers who want to learn more of the controls side, technicians and junior level controls engineers. This position will require the design, implementation, startup and troubleshooting of control systems, which involves the application of advanced computer/PLC/HMI programming, and electrical controls design/building as well as a strong desire to learn new skills, abilities and technologies. This engineer will contribute to and lead project teams to ensure the successful completion of team objectives. This engineer will also have to exercise close teamwork with operators and maintenance staff to troubleshoot and resolve problems for manufacturing after installation.

 

This engineer will also design and build processes and systems to ensure that our customers employees are safe while they are running our system.

 

The perfect candidate would also have expertise integrating FANUC robots and Domino printers, but in the absence of this expertise, a strong desire to learn and become expert in these skills will be required.

 

IME Automation is a small, growing, three and a half year old company. The engineer we hire will have the ability to have a real impact on the company and company leadership has a track record of listening to thoughts and suggestions from senior engineers.

Responsibilities:

  • PLC/HMI program development (sometimes building from scratch, sometimes modifying an existing program), and debugging for customer automation projects.
  • Utilize PLC/HMI skills and knowledge to resolve problems, contribute to development of new products/processes.
  • Properly design and build fully labeled control panels.
  • Create panel drawings and schematics.
  • Set up and program both simulations of, and actual FANUC Robots.
  • Help our customers optimize processes to attain lower manufacturing costs, increase productivity and reduce cycle times. Find solutions to problem areas in existing automation projects.
  • Participate in and conduct risk assessments, specify appropriate safety rated components and processes, and build needed safety features into automation projects.
  • Contribute to project teams to ensure the successful completion of team objectives.
  • Design and programs the controls of mechanical and pneumatic systems.

Qualifications:

  • Proof of expertise.
  • Many many successful implementations of standard automation.
  • Multiple successful implementations of figuring out a non-standard solution.
  • Expertise with PLC technologies and ability to effectively provide project work direction to a broad range of team members.
  • Expertise across multiple PLC platforms is a plus.
  • Expertise in communication protocols.
  • Knowledge of advanced motion control PLC programming
  • Knowledge of PLC system architecture, design and commissioning
  • Familiar with PID feedback control
  • Proficiency in Ladder Logic. Structured text and Function Block Diagram programming proficiency is a plus.
  • Application development experience in a high-level language (Python,C++/C# ect.) is a plus
  • Robotic system development is preferred.
  • CAD skills (Solidworks, Solidworks Electrical Schematic, & Roboguide) are a plus.
  • Expertise in using and creating electrical schematics.
  • Ability to trouble hoot mechanical issues is a plus.
  • Ability to do the physical work necessary to help fabricate systems (wiring, using machine shop tools, turning wrenches etc...)
  • Pneumatic controls expertise is preferred.

IME Automation is a small, but growing Automation Systems Integrator in Hurricane Utah.

IME Automation is a Drug Free Workplace where all new team members are subject to pre-employment drug testing.

IME Automation is currently located in Hurricane, UT, but will be moving in 2025 to Toquerville, UT where they are building a new building at Anderson Junction.
