Aquatic Center Swim Lesson Instructor

The City of Idaho Falls Aquatic Center is accepting applications for Swim Lesson Instructors. Provide direct leadership,

instruction, and motivation for swim lesson participants. Responsible for creating and maintaining a clean and safe

environment for swim team participants. Position is typically part-time and/or temporary in nature meaning less than 20

hours per week and may include evening hours and shifts on Saturdays.

Works under the direct guidance and direction of the Aquatics Specialist, Supervisor, Head Lifeguard and Manager.

* Training is included for those that continue to work for the Aquatic Center for 3 months *

Training will be provided by the Aquatic Center.

Essential Functions

Instructing swim lesson participants while being responsible for the safety of the participants in assigned classes. This

includes starting and ending classes on time, evaluating students, talking to parents and swimmers, cleaning up equipment

and completing required paperwork (lesson cards and submitting records) for each class. Instructors must also present

professional appearance and attitude at all times and maintain a high standard of customer service.

Will also need to attend mandatory meeting and training sessions as scheduled.

Minimum Qualifications

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements

listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Must be 16 years or older.

High maturity level and proven record of responsibility.

Qualified instructors should have the knowledge of and the ability to demonstrate skills in swim lesson instruction and the

ability to demonstrate skills as required for class content and use teaching aids such as kickboards, diving rings, lifejackets,

general public.

NECESSARY KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Instructors must be able to communicate with swimmers of all ages

Instructors should be certified in CPR, First Aid, and maintain an American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor (WSI)

certification.

If no certifications are currently available, they must be obtained in 30 days or less. Classes are offered and available at the

Wes Deist Aquatic Center.

Training will be provided by the Aquatic Center.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to hot and/or humid conditions (non-weather).

The employee is occasionally exposed to work near moving mechanical parts. The noise level in the environment is

usually moderate during preparation and clean up periods while very loud during work sessions.
