Position Summary:
The Biologist II is responsible for helping operate an automated system for the bulk isolation of human peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs) and facilitate the testing and validation of a novel AI/ML-based computer vision system to improve efficiencies of the automated platform.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Processing, labeling, and delivering samples to individuals throughout the research community
Prepare various buffer solutions in bulk as needed
Understand cell and molecular biology to establish cell-based assays
Responsible for cell culture maintenance (mammalian) support and PBMC isolation; strong aseptic technique
Data interpretation & troubleshooting/optimization of predefined methods
Record data in electronic notebooks and regular updating of internal databases
Recording and reporting errors and deviations from proper protocol on the automated system
Creating and maintaining organized data sets of photos for AI/ML training purposes and delivery of those data sets to the software development team
Data presentation during regular staff meetings
Participate and assist with new technology onboarding and set up
General lab maintenance
Skills & Proficiencies:
Candidates need to be self-starters; capable of working with fellow lab members, outside scientists, software developers, and third party vendors to develop, test, and refine a novel computer vision system for the isolation of human PBMCs
Strong written and oral communications skills.
Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
Critical thinking and proactive communication and escalation
Enthusiastic to learn new technologies
Education and Experience:
Bachelor's Degree in Biology or closely related field
Minimum of one (1) year of cell biology experienceeither through an industry or academic research position
Experience in data analysis and results interpretation
Familiarity with laboratory technology and instrumentation including centrifuges, cell counters, and automated liquid handlers
An equivalent combination of education and experience may be accepted in lieu of above.
