Associate Director – Data Products Engineering Lead

Responsibilities

You will join a growing and dynamic team of business insights and analytics professionals whose main goal is to help our marketing, sales, finance, and leadership partners achieve their business goals through data, reporting, and analytics. The Associate Director – Data Products Engineering focusing on Data Products, will play a pivotal role in designing, developing, and deploying innovative data-driven solutions within the organization. This job involves a depth of understanding of all Lilly commercial sales and marketing databases as well as an understanding of the available 3rd party data sources needed for core analytic processes. This position is accountable for supporting analytics, reporting, and data governance needs by leading the creation of sophisticated data engineering products, creating processes for automation of data ingestion and product creation, and leading special projects for the US affiliate as needed. Further, this position will be responsible for identifying and advocating standard processes for the affiliate across the data asset lifecycle, working closely with other data domain and analytics leaders. Collaborating closely with multi-functional teams, you will lead the technical implementation of data products, ensuring scalability, reliability, and performance. The ideal candidate possesses deep expertise in data engineering, strong problem-solving skills, and a passion for leveraging data to drive business outcomes. This position works with the Sr. Director – Data Engineering Lead.

Key Objectives:

  • Lead the design, development, and implementation of data products, drive excellence in engineering practices and ensure alignment to best practices and standards.

  • Lead the Analytic Data Products Strategy to deliver key data assets to enable streamlined, compliant execution and analytics.

  • Design and build scalable and efficient data pipelines to support the development of data products. Evaluate and select appropriate technologies and tools for data processing, storage, and analysis, considering factors such as performance, cost, and scalability.

  • Lead the end-to-end development lifecycle of data products, from requirements gathering and prototyping to production deployment and maintenance. Collaborate with relevant technical teams, data scientists, and partners to translate business requirements into technical specifications.

  • Advise collaborators and other functions and teams on proper use of data.

  • Collaborate closely with multi-functional teams to understand business and technical requirements, iterate on solutions, and deliver high-quality data products that meet business objectives. Communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical partners.

  • Establish and implement standard methodologies for data quality, testing, and validation to ensure the accuracy and reliability of data products. Implement monitoring and alerting systems to proactively identify and address issues.

  • Stay abreast of advancements in data engineering and related technologies. Find opportunities for process optimization, automation, and innovation to enhance the efficiency and performance of data products.

  • Create an inclusive culture where creating and maintaining high-quality data is a core subject area.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelors and/or Masters Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Statistics, Information Technology, Information Management, or equivalent experience.

  • 5+ years of experience in data engineering, with a focus on developing data products and solutions.

  • 5+ years of expertise in SQL, Python, Java, Spring, Spring Boot, Prefect, and/or other business intelligence tools.

  • Qualified candidates must be legally authorized to be employed in the United States. Lilly does not anticipate providing sponsorship for employment visa status (e.g., H-1B or TN status) for this employment position.

Additional Skills/Preferences

  • Expertise with cloud-based environments and associated tools.

  • Experience with defining and executing data ingestion pipelines.

  • Experience with large scale, enterprise 3rd party data and analytics.

  • Familiarity with cloud platforms such as AWS or Azure.

  • Solid understanding of data modeling, database design, and SQL.

  • Excellent problem-solving skills and a passion for using data to drive business outcomes.

  • Good communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively in multi-functional teams.

  • Strong pharmaceutical data engineering skills coupled with eye for business, and an ability to think strategically in an ambiguous environment.

  • Experience with pharmaceutical sales and marketing data and analytics.

  • Consistent record leading and delivering complex multi-functional projects.

  • Validated ability to rally resources to achieve project and business results.

  • Deep understanding of financial and sales/marketing business principles.

  • Experience with commercial analytics practices and processes.

  • Knowledge of DevOps practices and tools for CI/CD and infrastructure automation.

  • Experience with Agile/Scrum methodologies and project management tools such as JIRA.

  • High level of motivation and a strong desire to find creative solutions to challenging situations.
