Position Summary

The purpose and mission of the Marion County Auditor’s Office is to provide oversight, management, and processing of city and county financial transactions. These include, but are not limited to, property deductions, refunds, and settlement with the units of government, vendor invoices, revenue receipts, payroll and related tax withholdings and all other applicable processing of revenues and expenditures of the city and county. The agency is able to do this by cultivating a productive, collaborative, and compliant work environment in order for our workforce to meet the needs of the constituents of Indianapolis and Marion County.

Job Summary

This position is responsible for performing all payroll tax activities, including compliance with Federal, State and Local regulations. Activities include creating tax reports and verifying tax data with payroll summaries from PeopleSoft HCM. Responsible for calculating, reporting and filing all weekly, monthly, and annual payroll taxes and returns for the City of Indianapolis and Marion County, timely and accurately to regulatory agencies. This position reports to the Deputy Auditor of Payroll.

Position Responsibilities

  • Creates tax reports via PeopleSoft Human Capital Management System

  • Reviews and analyzes data from multiple reports to ensure accurate tax reporting

  • Ensures timely filing of tax reports on all Federal, State, and Local levels

  • Processes weekly 941 payroll taxes

  • Files quarterly 941 tax returns

  • Processes monthly 945 pension taxes

  • Processes annual 945 pension tax returns

  • Must maintain confidentiality at all times

Qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or related field with four (4) to six (6) years of previous experience. Previous PeopleSoft experience is required. Must be able to read technical information, compose a variety of documents, and facilitate group discussions. Prior experience with Enterprises Resource Planning (ERP) systems, including PeopleSoft Human Capital Management system with an emphasis on PeopleSoft Time and Labor. Knowledge of principles and techniques involved in payroll tax preparation, monitoring, and control; payroll related accounting practices; labor contracts and their impact on payroll; and applicable Federal, State and Local laws. Strong analytical, problem-solving, and troubleshooting skills with ability to identify problems and determine corrective actions. Effective collaboration and communication skills as well as an ability to manage multiple assignments in a timely manner with minimal supervision. Ability to prioritize work and promptly resolve or escalate when necessary. Proficient in MS Office applications.
