Actual compensation will depend on a candidate’s education, experience, skills, and geographic location. The anticipated wage for this position is

$64,500 - $167,200

Position Brand Description:

  • This Process Safety Engineer is a member of the corporate Engineering Tech Center organization responsible for ensuring the safe and economically effective delivery and operation of compliant manufacturing, research, and administrative facilities for Lilly worldwide.

  • This is a technical position focusing on technical aspects of process safety elements. A main focus of this role is in the Containment (technology application, engineering principles) area.

  • In addition, this role will assist with other elements of Process Safety, ranging from Mechanical integrity, to hazard identification, to other process safety elements.

  • This role requires collaboration with HSE partners (Global HSE and local HSE) to deliver solutions to questions and needs across the company.

  • The position requires cross functional interaction with both internal (Lilly) and external (contractors).

  • This Process Safety Engineer will broaden team capability and have the opportunity to help create and improve upon Process Safety standards largely impacting new manufacturing sites.

Key Objectives/Deliverables

  • Technical leadership in the Containment discipline

  • Establish and maintain all required technical aspects for containment engineering including (but not limited to) HVAC design and controls (including exhaust/LEV) , bag technology, valve technology, piping and system designs, etc.

  • Be proficient in risk assessment and hazard assessment methodologies as tools for developing containment solutions

  • Understand key toxicological aspects for compounds, products, excipients to develop proper containment engineering solutions

  • Own/manage engineering standards, best practices, and specifications in this discipline

  • Identify and implement new (or un-used) technology in this discipline to improve containment outcomes at Lilly

  • Influence engineering designs for processes to minimize impact from potent compounds, hazardous chemicals

  • Understand and implement techniques for cross-contamination control

  • Understand testing techniques/technologies that are employed in the containment/IH space

  • Monitor and, when appropriate, influence changes in external codes and standards on Lilly’s behalf, and work to ensure ongoing compliance within Lilly for changing external standards

  • Develop and maintain external network of containment engineering professionals and participate in appropriate external forums

  • Understand external rules and regulations that apply to containment solutions by collaborating with GHSE (IH) and other applicable external agencies/best practices

  • Be an active member of the Process Safety community within Lilly by taking on assignments in key elements of PSM such as Mechanical integrity, LOPA, PHR/Hazard reviews, Facility Siting, etc.

Basic Qualifications

  • B.S. in Engineering or related technical field

  • 3 years of relevant experience in a plant and/or manufacturing environment

Additional Preferences

  • Chemical Engineering background preferred

  • This is NOT a remote role and requires an on-site presence

  • This role requires domestic and international travel (10-20%)
