Job Summary:

The Engineer VI - Engineering Manager applies a thorough knowledge of current engineering principles and practices across various aspects affecting the organization. This role utilizes expertise acquired through progressive experience to address crucial issues and unique conditions. The Engineer VI - Engineering Manager stays informed about new methods and developments, recommending new practices or changes in program emphasis while managing programs of limited complexity and scope.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Provide strong leadership and effective management of the structural engineering discipline, ensuring teams meet project goals and maintain quality standards.

  • Foster positive client relations and encourage effective collaboration among staff and departments to enhance project outcomes.

  • Develop new business opportunities by identifying potential clients and leading proposal efforts for structural projects.

  • Lead and oversee structural project work, ensuring that designs meet engineering standards and client requirements.

  • Implement the Quality Program within the structures discipline, ensuring compliance and continuous improvement in project execution.

  • Assess resource requirements for each project and ensure the right talent allocation to meet project demands.

  • Forecast staffing needs and oversee the hiring process to ensure the team is adequately resourced for upcoming projects.

  • Mentor and provide career development opportunities to staff, helping them grow within the organization.

  • Promote employee engagement and maintain a positive work environment to ensure staff satisfaction and retention.

  • Facilitate training opportunities (both internal and external) to enhance the team's skills and knowledge.

  • Provide recommendations for raises and bonuses for staff based on performance.

  • Other duties as assigned to support the business needs and contribute to team success.

Qualifications:

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:

  • Proficiency in electronic communication, including e-mail, text, and standard office applications such as Microsoft Office Suite.

  • Exceptional oral and written communication skills with the ability to convey complex ideas clearly.

  • Ability to conduct presentations and participate in media interviews, representing the organization effectively.

  • Represent the organization at key functions and conferences, showcasing leadership and expertise.

    Required Education and Experience:

  • Professional Engineer (PE) license is required.

  • Bachelor’s degree in civil or structural engineering from an ABET/EAC accredited program.

  • 10+ years of structural engineering experience.

  • 3+ years of railroad and transit structures design experience, including accelerated bridge construction.

  • In-depth knowledge of industry standards and guidelines.

    Preferred Education and Experience:

  • Master’s Degree or equivalent.

  • Commitment to life-long learning to stay current with contemporary issues.

  • Ability to pursue and obtain a Structural Engineer (SE) license.

    Additional Information:

  • Compensation in California is based on education, qualifications, experience, and work location. Salary range: $130,000 - $180,000 per year.

    Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • Supervise a staff of engineers and designers.

  • Plan, schedule, and coordinate the preparation of documents or activities for multiple major projects, or oversee an entire program of the organization.

  • Review operational procedures to ensure compliance with applicable policies and performance measures.
