Cornell University's Statler Hotel has launched a search for a full-time S06 Banquet Captain to join our Meetings & Events Team. Banquet Captains are key members on our M&E Team, helping us to lead teams of professional staff along with bright, talented college students who are eager to learn and be inspired to work together to deliver a WOW to guests of the Statler Hotel.This is a great opportunity for someone who has an interest in banquet and conference services operations and would like to advance their career in hospitality. Meetings & Events is an exciting department to work in, with a wide variety of events, including meetings, conferences, recruiter events, breakfasts, lunches, and dinners, cocktail receptions, weddings, bar mitzvahs and other high-profile, special events. Your role as a member of the Meetings & Events Leadership Team:

Statler Hotel leaders are expected to lead with hospitality.We connect with each member of our staff, ensuring staff feel welcomed, comfortable and important. As a Banquet Captain on our Meetings & Events Team, your primary function will be event coordination and support. Among your duties:

  • When managers or supervisors are leading the events, the Captains are there to assist and support.
  • When a manager or supervisor is not leading, the Captains assume the lead role, supervising the staff, performing set up and breakdown of events, event execution and service delivery, ensuring safety and sanitation standards are met, responsible service of beverages, and proper cash handling procedures are followed.
  • Banquet Captains may also assist with pre-event planning and post-event documentation.
  • They will assist with the training and supervision of student and professional staff.
  • And may assist and cross-train in other operational areas of the hotel as needed.

What we are looking for in a Banquet Captain:

  • High School Diploma required, Associates Degree or higher preferred.
  • One to three or more years of relative experience in banquets, catering and/or meeting and events execution or supervision.
  • Must be driven and energetic with excellent customer service, teamwork and leadership skills.
  • Professional demeanor fitting of a high end, four-diamond property.
  • Ability and enthusiasm to coach, mentor, and train students as well as other inexperienced staff.
