Our division is comprised of leading student affairs experts who support our campus on pressing student life matters including public service, health, wellness, social justice, residential living, food services, sports, recreation, career services, and student activities and organizations including sorority and fraternity life. We provide support and services to roughly 25,000 undergraduate, graduate, and professional students on multiple campuses in the U.S. and abroad.As part of SCL, Cornell Dining is comprised of more than 30 on-campus eateries, including multiple all-access dining rooms, cafes, coffee shops, food courts, retail convenience stores, concessions stands, a restaurant, and catering services. From crafting holiday-themed meals to chef surprises and dining room special events, the Cornell Dining team of more than 400 skilled culinarians and front-line associates, and 600 student employees work hard every day to offer a variety of fresh and healthy food from all over the world. The Dining Manager, C-Stores is responsible for the safe, efficient and profitable operation the two convenient stores on campus through daily oversight and support. In partnership with the Assistant Operations Manager, the Dining Manager will provide on-the-job coaching and feedback to promote diversity and inclusive workplace behaviors that support strong teamwork and collaboration. This position is also responsible for ensuring a memorable dining experience by providing regular oversight of product and presentation, offering insights and suggestions to help the units be financially successful, and maintain food safety, sanitation, and quality assurance.


A successful Dining Manager, will:

  • Foster a welcoming environment to maintain strong and lasting relationships with our campus partners, service providers, and clients by ensuring great food and beverage service to the students and Cornell community. This is accomplished by demonstrating and applying customer service practices and quickly responding to known concerns.
  • Establish a pattern of management to monitor and maintain, clean, attractive, and safe facilities for our guests and our staff.
  • Be actively involved with staff and continually look to motivate, develop, and manage performance through regular hands-on training, daily feedback, and coaching that ensures a productive and effective team.
  • Understand the dining unit(s) financial environment and other key business indicators and find creative ways to help improve operational efficiencies and profitability.
  • Conduct regular shift meetings with staff to foster a sense of teamwork and belonging.
  • Ensure appropriate staffing levels are maintained based on business needs.
  • Assist in ensuring dining and University policies and procedures are implemented and maintained positively and consistently.

Required Qualifications:

  • Associate degree in culinary arts, food service, hospitality management, or business management and/or at least two years of food service experience or combination of education and experiences.
  • Technical/computer skills, including experience with Microsoft Suite productivity tools.
  • Highly effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to build meaningful and effective relationships.
  • Working knowledge of food safety standards and New York State health codes
  • Experience in and/or demonstrated commitment to supporting diversity, equity, access, inclusion, and well-being.
  • Demonstrated skill in the understanding of cultural differences.
  • Proven experience connecting diversity, inclusion, and wellbeing practices to business goals.

Unit assignments and schedules are likely to change. A successful Dining Manager must be able to work varied and extended hours including nights, weekends, and some holidays.


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Additional professional or education experience preferably in a high-quality collegiate dining program with familiarity in board plan operations and menu cycles preferred but not required

Visa sponsorship is not available for this position. This position is located in Ithaca, New York. The successful applicant will be expected to work on campus.
