Henry Ford Health System Groundskeeper - Fulltime - Days (7a-3:30p) - Jackson - Days in Jackson, Michigan

GENERAL SUMMARY:

Under general supervision, maintains and otherwise cares for main campus and ancillary facility grounds which includes snow removal, landscaping, equipment operation, turf management, picking up debris, and other related duties as required.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

· Picks up and disposes of debris on, grounds and in parking areas.

· Picks up and disposes of leaves in autumn.

· Selects type of sod and/or shrubs to be used in a particular area, prepares soil with appropriate fertilizer and plants new sod and/or shrubs into soil.

· Mows, trims, fertilizes, and reseeds lawn as required.

· Inspects flowers, shrubs, and trees for evidence of insects, fungi, and other pests; sprays or dusts herbicides and insecticides on infected areas.

· Weeds and thins flower beds and prunes hedges and trees.

· Adjusts and repairs equipment such as lawn mowers, sprinklers, trucks, tractors and sweeper.

· Removes snow from parking areas and walkways using hand shovels or tractor with snow blades.

· Spreads salt on ground to prevent people from slipping as required.

· Installs and repairs fences, fence posts, and protective parking bumpers.

· Keeps drains clean and free from obstruction throughout the grounds.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

  • High School diploma or equivalent required.

  • Coursework in Maintenance Mechanics or equivalent in work experiences is required to repair and maintain equipment used in Landscaping.

  • Two (2) to three (3) years of previous related work experience is required to obtain the professional level of knowledge needed for the position.
