Job Summary and Qualifications

The Pulmonary Function Technician demonstrates sound knowledge and proficiency in the treatment of respiratory disorders for inpatients and outpatients with various types of media and delivers care in a safe, effective and appropriate care in a timely and accurate manner.

The below testing procedures include complete PFT with DLCO and Methacholine Challenge studies:

  • Performs calibration before initiation of procedure.

  • Verifies physician's orders prior to performing procedure.

  • Verifies patient's I.D. before performing procedure.

  • Performs test per departmental policy and procedure.

  • Assures completed test available for pulmonologist for interpretation.

  • Notifies biomed of problems with equipment.

  • Changes mouthpiece and filter between each patient.

  • Charges and documents procedures properly.

Respiratory duties as follows:

  • Performs CPR on neonate, child, adolescent, adult and geriatric patients as required.

  • Administers medication and oxygen therapy in accordance with the physician’s order and departmental policies and procedures.

  • Receives work assignments and prioritizes workload effectively to maximize number of procedures performed. Completes all assigned work within specified timeframe.

  • Demonstrates knowledge of the specific conditions, diseases, and treatment therapies for the specific patient population of the department.

  • Evaluates patient’s responses to therapies. Communicates to members of the health care team and implements necessary changes to care.

What qualifications you will need:

  • Graduate from an accredited Respiratory program.

  • Advanced Cardiac Life Spt must be obtained within 30 days of employment start date

  • Basic Cardiac Life Support must be obtained within 30 days of employment start date

  • PALS Pediatric Adv Life Supt must be obtained within 30 days of employment start date

  • RRT/Respiratory Care Practitioner (RRT / RCP) in the state of Florida

  • 1 year of Respiratory Therapy experience required.
