Fedcap Career Development Specialist in Jamaica, New York

Position Summary:

Responsible for providing career advisement and developing a sector-based career pathway; ensures members have needed support services; supporting members in program activities; and referring members locate suitable job training programs and employment; maintaining continuing contact and providing employment retention services. Serves as a mentor, liaison and troubleshooter by managing cases day-to-day based on the members’ career plans.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Observes all policies and procedures and attends all required trainings and certifications as scheduled.

  • Interviews, motivates, and guides members with the development of career plan.

  • Coordinate with Job Developer and Transition Coordinators to assist members with understanding and exploring needs, strengths, interest, aptitudes, experience, capabilities with career goals.

  • Guides the member through all activities as outlined in their career plan.

  • Facilitates IMPACT program members work readiness one-on-one sessions and in small groups.

  • Responsible for scheduling and facilitating workshops according to client needs

  • Develops and facilitates life skills and work readiness training curriculum

  • Consults with Employment Coordinator regarding curriculum and training needs

  • Plans and develops materials needed for each class using textbooks, handouts, workbooks, information from the Internet, and other sources based on Power of Possible training

  • Plans workshop and seminar topics and develops appropriate curriculum materials

  • Regularly meets with assigned members to monitor progress toward meeting employment goals as well as coordinating the mitigation of barriers to engagement in services, wellness and recovery, and employability.

  • Provides services in a flexible manner according to member’s schedule to maintain engagement in programs.

  • Responsible for capturing and recording employment information.

  • Provides outreach to members who have difficulty with maintaining engagement to encourage enrollment and successful participation in program services.

  • Stresses urgency and ownership, guiding members through a learn-by-doing process during their program engagement.

  • Document’s activities, participation, and employment progress in the case records and both HRA and FedcapCARES™ computer system.

  • Works with Community Coaches to provide outreach to members who fail to report to an appointment to identify and help address and underlying issues to encourage member to re-engage.

  • Experience working with public assistance recipients, formerly incarcerated individuals and those affected by the challenges associated with poverty.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in public administration or a related field, such as psychology, education, social work, vocational rehabilitation, or occupational rehabilitation from an accredited institution.

  • Minimum of two (2) years successful work experience in social services or other related field, and capacity (including language skills) to serve the program’s population.

  • Ability to work with people from diverse backgrounds and be sensitive to maintaining confidentiality.

  • Highly organized and detail oriented.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office.

  • Experience working with public assistance recipients, formerly incarcerated individuals and those affected by the challenges associated with poverty.
