As a Research Agronomist, you will help design and test seed products for innovative new cropping systems. Your work will include crop modeling, physiology, agronomic design, field testing and data analysis for agricultural systems that include important biofuel and feed crops like winter canola, winter wheat, soybean, and corn. Your partners will include Corteva breeders, data scientists, and field agronomists, as well as public and private sector partners.

Responsibilities - What You'll Do:

Your work will include time spent developing cropping systems at your desk and in the field:

  • Cropping Systems Design and Testing: Design, develop testing protocols for, and evaluate agronomic practices for new cropping systems.

  • Crop Modelling/Physiology: Design, analyze and supervise data collection for trials to improve crop models and optimize crop physiology for new cropping systems.

  • Seed Product Development: Work closely with breeders to suggest product development targets for new cropping systems.

  • Field Trial Implementation: Collaborate with field research teams and field agronomists to implement trials and recommend changes in-season and after harvest.

  • External Partnerships: Work closely and effectively on joint research efforts with public sector scientists and commercial partners. Effectively communicate with cooperating farmers.

  • Safety Focus: Contribute to maintaining a safe and respectful work environment.

Qualifications

Requirements - What You'll Bring:

Ph.D in crop physiology, agronomy, breeding, ecology or similar:

  • Crop Modelling & Experimental Design and Analysis Experience: DSSAT, APSIM or similar; strong knowledge of crop physiology; experimental design, data collection and analysis capabilities; capacity to learn new methods and software.

  • Agronomic Skills: Practical knowledge of agronomy. Demonstrated understanding of farming practices at a system level, including agricultural equipment, fertility, pest control, planting and harvest methods.

  • Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Strong interpersonal skills. Ability to work well with diverse groups of people, including farmers, public sector scientists, and commercial partners.

  • Results Driven Attitude: Self-motivated with the ability to initiate projects, make improvements and decisions, and solve problems. Detail-oriented, with strong time management and organizational skills.

  • Safety Oriented Mindset: Commitment to excellent safety and risk management practices.

  • Field Ready: Physical requirements for field-based agricultural research

  • Lifting and work outdoors and in varying ergonomic environments.

  • Some travel required (

  • Driver's license and acceptable driving record.

  • (Preferred) Ability to obtain FAA Part 107 drone license.
