FM Staff Engineering Specialist – Construction in JOHNSTON, Rhode Island

We are seeking an experienced engineer to join the Climate and Structural Resilience team. This person will be the construction subject matter expert and technical representative leading engineering activities and showcasing FM's expertise in property loss mitigation related to construction practices.
This includes developing and delivering products and solutions for the benefit of our worldwide operations and to help clients reduce property loss costs. Key responsibilities include:
Leads the collaborative effort with team and key stakeholders to develop and deliver engineering products, services and solutions aligned with our clients' needs.
Actively provide and demonstrate FM’s leadership and establish its recognition internally and externally as the lead technical voice for construction risk mitigation and ensure FM continues to be recognized as the industry leader.
Elevate the technical expertise and competency for effective risk identification, quantification, and improvement in the organization.
Support the development and retention of profitable business by providing expert consulting relative to the assessment of new or unusual hazards or the development of timely, creative, reliable solutions to unique hazards.
Represent FM internally and externally, such as attending and presenting technical papers at industry conferences, participating on committees, code setting, and other industry organizations that benefit our ability to understand our clients’ risks.
Collaborate with FM field engineering, client service, claims, and new business development to consistently build and deliver value for our clients and develop long-term partnerships.
Support FM Approvals, research and technical standards development.
Stay apprised of trends related to construction practices and techniques.
Assure that current and evolving hazards are recognized and effective solutions are developed.
BS in structural engineering, civil engineering, or fire protection engineering with a focus on construction
7+ years construction design or related engineering experience
Industry experience to include consulting or design of building envelope related services including curtain wall systems. Understanding architectural practices is a plus.
Be familiar with International Building Code (IBC) and other regulations.
Licensed professional engineer and/or structural engineer desired
Have professional experience in commercial construction practices and techniques.
Strong analytical thinker and decisive problem solver with logical application
Exemplary consultative skills, including active listening
Effective execution, collaboration and negotiation skills
Efficient time management ability with minimal supervision
Possess excellent written, presentation, and interpersonal communication skills
Proven project management capabilities
Open to travel domestically and globally
Compensation, Grade, and Job Title will be determined based on qualifications, experience, and technical skillset.
