Summary About the Position: Serve as a Senior Structural Engineering Specialist, performing biddability, constructability, and operability (BCO) reviews and evaluations of the structural portions of preliminary and final plans and specifications; reviewing and evaluating shop drawings and other contractor submittals; and providing continuing structural engineering support during construction. Responsibilities Performs BCO reviews of the structural portions of preliminary and final plans and specifications for completeness of detail, and appropriateness and clarity of design. Reviews the more technically complex shop drawings and other contractor submittals from field offices without structural engineering expertise. Reviews the descriptions of changes on Basic Change Documents (BCDs) prepared by other engineers and technicians for technical accuracy and ensures that changes are feasible and warranted. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-11). Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
