Job Title: Mechanic
Job Description
We are seeking a skilled Mechanic with extensive technical knowledge and hands-on experience in electrical, electronic, mechanical, and hydraulic equipment. You will perform corrective, preventive, and unscheduled maintenance, inspections, adjustments, and proper maintenance on trains.
Responsibilities
Perform corrective, preventive, and unscheduled maintenance, inspections, adjustments, testing, cleaning, lubrication, and proper maintenance on assigned vehicles.
Observe PV electromechanical components in operation to detect potential failures and locate causes of malfunction.
Respond to malfunctions and complete repairs as assigned.
Troubleshoot, identify, and resolve system and subsystem issues to support field technicians.
Produce accurate maintenance records of track, third rail, and related infrastructure, equipment performance, work accomplished, and other information using a computerized maintenance management system.
Analyze log files to troubleshoot and provide required corrective actions and improvements.
Perform re-railing tasks and re-railing equipment maintenance in accordance with training and qualifications.
Drive the train in MSF and drive work vehicles when responding to emergencies or when required on duty.
Operate OTE to move trains in and out of the shop and for wheel turning activities.
Operate wheel turning machine, wheel press, train lifts, and other MSF equipment.
Support on-site spare parts management and the repair cycle from/to the site.
Support the preparation of fleet performance maintenance technical reports.
Produce work blocks and job hazard analysis related to planned work.
Conduct job and safety briefings as required.
Perform duties as instructed by Rolling Stock and Depot Lead and/or Manager and the Rolling Stock Engineer.
Complete assigned operational, equipment failure, safety, and other reports.
Participate in training programs as required.
Comply with Safety Rules, Operating Rule Book, and first-aid procedures.
Use electronic test equipment, power tools, and other specialized hand tools.
Ensure the execution and collection of all maintenance records and support the monitoring of day-to-day maintenance performance.
Ensure conformance to technical specifications and compliance with operational specifications and tolerances.
Ensure sufficient materials, tools, and equipment are on hand, calibrated, and in good condition for maintenance activities.
Identify failure trends early that may impact fleet availability.
Perform simple failure analysis and technical investigations.
Ensure corrective and preventative maintenance tasks are executed in compliance with company safety policy and local regulations.
Comply with all maintenance procedures and instructions, including safety, quality, and environmental procedures.
Execute health check procedures before vehicles are put into service.
Ensure effective implementation of rolling stock and first-line response maintenance safety standards.
Perform additional cross-functional job duties on unrelated track and third rail systems, including electrical, mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic controlled systems.
Essential Skills
Technical knowledge in electrical, electronic, mechanical, and hydraulic equipment.
Hands-on experience in electrical, electronic, mechanical, and hydraulic equipment.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Experience in diesel troubleshooting, mechanical repair, and system maintenance.
Work Environment
The role requires flexibility and efficiency, which includes shift rotation, weekends, and holiday work typical of major infrastructure projects and operating transit systems. The technician can be on a shift rotation for any day of the week and any shift of the day. Shift schedules include: 1st shift: 3am – 11:30pm, 2nd shift: 11pm-7:30am, and 3rd shift: 7pm-3:30am.
