Job Description Summary:

Under the direction of the Director of Enterprise IT Architecture (EITA), the Network Manager-Network Infrastructure serves in a team environment as the senior advanced network technician and is responsible for actively designing, installing, supporting, and maintaining Local Area Network (LAN) and Wide Area Network (WAN) components for the University of Kansas Medical Center. The position also serves as a resource consultant for other network specialists and technology providers having LAN and WAN related issues. The manager is responsible for meeting regularly with team members reviewing and updating goals, expectations, and priorities in line with the Department of KUMC IT Services (KITS). The manager will also keep the Director of Enterprise IT Architecture (EITA) updated on all current projects.

Job Description:

Required Qualifications

Education: Bachelor\'s degree with major course work in Engineering, Computer Science, Telecommunications, Networking, or other technology-related discipline. Relevant work experience can substitute for education on a year-for-year basis.

Work Experience:

Five (5) or more years hands on experience configuring and supporting Cisco network switches and routers.

Experience with advanced routing protocols such as OSPF and BGP.

Previous experience installing and configuring wireless networks.

Previous experience installing and configuring Cisco firewalls and VPN Concentrators.

Current knowledge of strategies, technologies, and trends in information technology and telecommunications in large organizations.

Preferred Qualifications

Education: Cisco CCNA Certification.

Work Experience:

Previous experience with network troubleshooting in a VoIP environment.

Previous experience with configuring network QOS in a VoIP and Video environment.

Previous experience with configuring a proper multicast environment.

Experience connecting networks using ISDN, T1 circuits, and CSU/DSU\'s.

Experience with LAN/WAN protocol analysis tools and Network management software utilizing SNMP.

Experience with Cisco Wireless Lan Controllers and management systems (WCS or WLSE).

Avaya VoIP / SIP and H.323 Technologies.

Higher Education or Healthcare experience.

Skills:

Must be a highly detailed oriented individual with proven project management skills and the ability to manage large enterprise-wide projects requiring coordination of many departments.

Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills and the ability to work well under stress, within defined timelines and on budget.

Job Description

Serves in a lead role in all aspects of network architecture, design and implementation.

Manages a team of Network Engineers.

Works on the architecture, design, installation, management, and continuing support of the Medical Center\'s Network Infrastructure.

Works with other network engineers to implement and support intra and inter campus infrastructure that supports the integration of voice, data and video.

Responsible for supporting the Multipoint Video hardware, video firewalls and video gatekeepers and communicating any changes with TLT Media.

Meets regularly with the Director EITA and other network, telecom, and server and storage engineers to review/prioritize projects.

Keeps abreast of current issues and developments in LAN/WAN technology.

Works and communicates regularly with Server and Storage Infrastructure engineers to ensure that new and existing servers/systems are connected and communicating properly across the network.

Responding to LAN/WAN trouble calls in a timely manner.

Communicates LAN/WAN changes regularly with the Director of EITA, team members and others who might be affected.

Configuring and managing Network infrastructure hardware/software, including routers, switches, wireless components, management software, network security, firewalls, and LAN/WAN protocol analysis tools.

Performs other duties as assigned by the Director of EITA.
