Summary

Spire is seeking a Specialist, Corrosion Control to work in our Missouri West region. This position will be responsible for pipeline safety regulatory compliance and management of the cathodic protection test-point database. This position will also provide guidance to the Construction and Maintenance department regarding proper cathodic protection application, monitoring techniques, and assist with the performance of pipeline integrity.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Ensure compliance deadlines are met by reviewing the cathodic protection database (e.g., annual reads and reviewing work orders to ensure repairs are made within the proper timeframe).

  • Train Company personnel on use of cathodic protection database.

  • May perform field surveys and evaluations of transmission line segments in preparation of pipeline integrity indirect assessments.

  • As necessary, oversee both Company and third-party contractor crews in the performance of pipeline integrity transmission line assessments.

  • Review inspection reports on rectifiers and critical bonds to ensure compliance.

  • Conduct field audits and investigate corrosion leaks on steel mains and services.

  • Review installation work orders involving steel to ensure all corrosion standards are being followed.

  • Work closely with union personnel and field operations management.

  • All other duties as assigned.

Essential Characteristics and Competencies

Supervisory Responsibilities

None

Required Education (certifications, licenses)

  • High school diploma or GED required.

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university preferred.

  • Successful completion of the AMPP CP1 – Cathodic Protection Course preferred. preferred

  • Vocational training in electricity/electronic or secondary education in applied sciences preferred.

  • Valid driver’s license

Required knowledge, skill and abilities

  • 1 – 2 years of experience of corrosion control in the field including cathodic protection monitoring, maintenance, and troubleshooting. - req'd

  • Four years of field experience in natural gas distribution system construction and transmission pipelines and/or maintenance. - req'd

  • Must be proficient in computers such as excel, word, outlook, etc.

  • Must be proficient in the operation of multimeters, locating equipment, hand tools, power tools and lock out/tag out safety procedures

Physical demands, environment and schedule

  • Work will be performed in an office environment, and/or field setting where ongoing exposure to weather elements will occur.

  • Frequent walking, standing, and driving.

  • Hours: 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

  • Overtime/travel: occasional evening and/or weekend even

  • Must be able to walk distances (1-2 miles) carrying equipment weighing up to 20 pounds.

  • Must be able to traverse rough terrain on foot.

  • Must be able to help outside assigned area when needed.
