Burns & McDonnell Staff Traffic Engineer - Transportation (Kansas City) in Kansas City, Missouri
Description
The Staff Traffic Engineer will work on project teams to create world class designs for new projects, alterations and redevelopments on a variety of projects.
Performs a variety of traffic engineering assignments including completing traffic analysis and studies, developing traffic signal plans, signal timing plans, maintenance of traffic plans, pavement marking plans, signing plans, and ITS plans.
Additional duties include quantity tabulations, QA/QC, and preparation of written reports.
Requires working knowledge of traffic engineering design standards including ITE, FHWA, AASHTO, MUTCD, and HCM.
This position requires an experienced and competent individual capable of successfully solving complex traffic engineering problems that require adaptation and modification of standard techniques, procedures and criteria, and a background with CAD software including MicroStation and AutoCAD.
Typical duties include managing project budgets, QA/QC and oversight of assignments delegated to junior staff.
Assigned projects will be for a broad range of DOT, municipal, and private clients on projects across the country.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in civil engineering or related degree from an ABET accredited program. and 3 years of civil engineering experience, consulting preferred required or
Bachelor's degree in civil or related engineering technology from an ABET accredited program and successful completion of Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam. and 3 years of civil engineering experience, consulting preferred. Required or
Master's degree in civil engineering and 2 years of civil engineering experience, consulting preferred
Strong knowledge in standard civil engineering techniques and procedures.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to work methodically and analytically in a quantitative problem-solving environment and demonstrated critical thinking skills.
Strong computer skills (e.g. Microsoft Office Suite)
Strong computer skills (e.g. AutoCAD, MicroStation, BIM (Revit), Civil 3D, PLS, PLS-CADD, RISA-3D, MathCADD), and/or hydraulic, hydrologic, pavement, civil analysis programs.
Strong attention to detail, facilitation, team building, collaboration, organization and problem-solving skills.
Engineers in Training-EIT Certification Preferred
