The Seattle Times Mechanical Maintenance Manager in Kent, Washington

The Seattle Times, a Pulitzer Prize-winning news organization and the premier commercial printing option in the Puget Sound, is hiring for a motivated and skilled Mechanical Maintenance Manager to join our Operations team in Kent, WA. This role will oversee the day-to-day operation, safety, and success of our Maintenance Mechanic (Machinist) team.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead, mentor, and develop a team of Machinists as they provide predictive/corrective maintenance support to all areas of production.

  • Coordinate the maintenance schedule, troubleshooting, and repair of a broad scope of machinery and equipment to ensure timely repairs and a smooth-running operation.

  • Maintain a safe and functional workspace by ensuring adherence to all company and safety policies and guidelines.

  • Order supplies and materials to maintain proper inventory.

  • Demonstrate excellent time management skills, the ability to prioritize and lead completion of projects.

  • Collaborate with other departments to maintain strong communication and to achieve common goals.

  • Ensure proper records are maintained of all work performed and problems encountered using computer system.

  • Prepare annual budget for cost center and maintain expenses to stay within annual budget.

     

    Qualifications:

  • Experience:

  • A minimum of 5 years of experience as a machinist, maintenance mechanic, or equivalent.

  • Proven experience in a managerial, supervisory, or lead experience in a manufacturing environment is strongly preferred.

  • Demonstrated expertise in mechanical maintenance, machining, and repair including pumps, gears, bearings, gearboxes, and rotating equipment.

  • Strong manual hand dexterity.

  • Ability to clearly communicate information, both verbal and written.

  • Ability to maintain a professional appearance/demeanor and a positive attitude.

  • Familiarity with safety regulations and standards relevant to industrial maintenance, such as OSHA guidelines.

     

    Work Schedule: The position is primarily day shift, but the Mechanical Maintenance Manager must be flexible and available to support both day and swing shifts, including weekends and holidays, as operational demands require.

     

    Compensation: The full salary range for this position is $89,900 to $127,000. We typically pay between $89,900 and $114,600, depending on experience and qualifications.
