GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF POSITION\ \ Performs field and technical construction inspection work for environmental, water, sewer, street, and other public works projects and programs. Assures compliance with Federal, State and local codes and standards and contractual provisions.\

The Construction Inspector is the entry-level class in the Construction Inspection series. This class is distinguished from the Senior Construction Inspector by the performance of more routine tasks and duties assigned to positions within the series related to providing engineering information for construction inspection work and maintaining efficient records and logs.

Works under the general guidance and direction of the Construction Inspection Supervisor, Assistant City Engineer and/or City Engineer.

Minimum Qualifications/Special Requirements

DESIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:\

  • Graduation from high school diploma or GED equivalent;
  • Minimum of two (2) years related experience to include engineering/public works inspection of construction projects and materials testing of soils, concrete and asphalt;
  • Supplemented by at least one (1) year of related technical or college training in Algebra, Trigonometry, Physics, Land Surveying, Civil Engineering, or a closely related field preferred; and the
  • Ability to obtain at least two (2) of the following within one year of hire::

{=html} <!-- --> - ATTI (Arizona Technical Testing Institute) field technician certification - ATTSA (American Traffic Safety Services Association) traffic control supervisor certification - ACI (American Concrete Institute) concrete field testing certification - ADEQ (Arizona Department of Environmental Quality) water distribution or sewer collection Operator I Certification - NICET (National Institute for Certification in Engineering Technologies) Level I or II certification in a civil engineering technology program - APWA (American Public Works Association) public infrastructure inspector certification; or - Any equivalent combination of education, experience and training which demonstrates the knowledge and experience to perform the work.

Valid Arizona Driver\'s license or ability to obtain one prior to employment.
