Mid-Hudson Valley Federal Credit Union Payroll & Benefits Specialist in Kingston, New York
We are currently recruiting for a Payroll/Benefits Specialist to join our Human Resources department. The individual chosen will be responsible for biweekly payroll processing and functions related to successful completion and administration of payroll. They will also be responsible for administration and coordination of suite of employee benefits.Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:Biweekly payroll processing, including maintenance of time and attendance program, payroll processing system, HRIS and related interfaces. Ensuring processes meet federal and state payroll laws and regulations and maintain working knowledge of pertinent updates. Resolving payroll issues with internal stakeholders, including staff and managers, providing training as necessary.Advising, counseling, and assisting employees on benefits related issues enabling proper and complete utilization of existing and new benefits including medical/dental/vision insurance, 401k plan, life insurance, short- and long-term disability, FMLA, PFL, Employee Assistance Program, and COBRA. Monitoring current developments in employee benefit and personnel practices and propose/implement changes as appropriate.Maintaining necessary updates to employee files and provide employee-related reports assuring compliance with government regulations as well as with Credit Union policies and objectives. Promoting employee relations by assisting all offices with employee concerns and policy issues and providing input and guidance on the interpretation of policies as they relate to employees, assuring compliance with government regulations, as well as with credit union policies and objectives.Managing annual open enrollment process in a smooth and user-friendly manner, while meeting applicable deadlines. Conducting benefit education as necessary. In conjunction with current business plan, completing additional projects as assigned; to include items such as annual benefits statements, coordination of flu shot clinic and biometric screening, and affirmative action plan.Performance Measurements include:Assuring member service is top priority, which includes treating members and other employees professionally with courtesy and respect and upholding MHV Service Standards.Reviewing time and attendance records for payroll input, reviewing payroll output and distributing pay stubs to employees with zero errors.Monitoring current developments in employee benefit programs and proposes/implements changes as appropriate within established budget.Maintaining a good working knowledge of all salary and benefit regulations, both federal and state, pertaining to position, which includes ensuring that all human resource programs and actions are in compliance with organizational policies and relevant regulations. Keeping management informed regarding key operating issues affecting the department.Staying abreast of current trends affecting the financial services industry, having an overall knowledge of the credit union, its policies and procedures, and continually expanding knowledge and developing skills.Knowledge and Skills:One year to three years of similar or related experience.A two-year college degree, or completion of a specialized certification or licensing, or completion of specialized training courses conducted by vendors, or job-specific skills acquired through an apprenticeship program.Work involves extensive personal contact with others and is of a personal or sensitive nature. Motivating, influencing, and/or training others is key at this level. Outside contacts become important and fostering sound relationships with other entities (companies and/or individuals) becomes necessary and often requires the ability to influence and/or sell ideas or services to others.Strong time management; ability to manage multiple workloads with successful results; ability to work independently; organizational skills, excellent verbal and written communication skills, listening skills, problem analysis and problem resolution; above average interpersonal skills; computer skills (i.e., Microsoft Office). Working knowledge of employment and interviewing practices, compensation and benefits, federal regulations, such as FLSA, EEOC, Affirmative Action, COBRA, etc.Is able to bend, sit, and stand in order to perform primarily sedentary work with limited physical exertion and occasional lifting of up to 20 lbs. Must be capable of climbing / descending stairs in an emergency situation. Normal range of vision and hearing abilities required. Must be able to operate routine office equipment including computer terminals and keyboards, telephones, copiers, facsimiles, and calculators.Must be able to routinely perform work on computer for an average of 6-8 hours per day, when necessary. Must be able to work extended hours or travel off site whenever required or requested by management. Must be capable of regular, reliable and timely attendance.Must be able to routinely perform work indoors in climate-controlled shared work area with minimal noise.Must be able to perform job functions independently or with limited supervision and work effectively either on own or as part of a team. Must be able to read and carry out various written instructions and follow oral instructions. Must be able to complete basic mathematical calculations, spell accurately, and understand computer basics. Must be able to speak clearly and deliver information in a logical and understandable sequence.Must be capable of dealing calmly and professionally with numerous different personalities from diverse cultures at various levels within and outside of the organization and demonstrate highest levels of customer service and discretion when dealing with the public. Must be able to perform responsibilities with composure under the stress of deadlines / requirements for extreme accuracy and quality and/or fast pace. Must be able to effectively handle multiple, simultaneous, and changing priorities. Must be capable of exercising highest level of discretion on both internal and external confidential matters.Work is generally performed within an office environment, primarily in a climate-controlled environment with minimal safety/health hazard potential.
