Port Gamble S'Klallam Tribe Education Clinic Teacher in Kingston, Washington
Job Summary:
This is a full time, professional position providing Adult Basic Education & GED instruction as well as a state mandated credit retrieval program including a secondary summer school. Other services conducted: tutoring adults and youth in grades 9-12 of the Port Gamble S'Klallam Tribe community; serving as a liaison between students and schools; cooperating and consulting with other departments; and conducting college enrollment activities. Supervise other teacher/tutors as requested.
Duties Include:
Teaching Duties:
- Teach academic subjects for credit completion to high school students during school year.
- Provide Summer School credit completion.
- Teach ABE/GED classes.
- Provide individual and group instruction.
- Teach/tutor homework subjects to high school, and independent study students.
- Tutor students at high school campus during mornings in math, science, and tutorials.
- Tutor students for WA State High School Proficiency Exams.
- Provide instruction for high school students temporarily out of school.
- Assist, advise and write recommendations for seniors portfolio completion.
- Plan curriculum and lessons for all programs. Evaluate students work and progress.
- Conduct academic awards honoring for high school students.
Administrative Duties:
- Recruit students.
- Attend department meetings and trainings.
- Communicate with families, counselors, teachers, and staff for Youth, ICW, TANF, and
Court on student progress.
- Assist in collection of high school student releases for review of records.
- Prepare credit letters explaining: requirements met, credit amount, and grade for transcript entry.
- Monitor registrars posting of student credits and grades for accurate credit and senior evaluations.
- Monitor academically at risk high school students. Participate in monthly KHS meetings.
- Assist students in accessing: work-based learning, West Sound Tech, Running--Start, Online-School, Job Corps.
- Attend IEP, high school registration, and disciplinary meetings as requested.
- Prepare department reports and monthly educational progress report for TANF.
- Advise and assist high school and post-secondary students with educational planning, admissions, and financial aid.
Qualifications:
- Licensing/Certification: Requires a Washington State Teacher Certification.
- 3-5 years teaching experience.
- Enjoys working with adults and teens and responsive to individual interests and learning styles.
- Strong Skills in Core Subjects: English, U. S. and World History, Algebra. Geometry, Physical Sci.
- Familiarity with Best Practices in Education
- Consistent and firm rather than punitive, when dealing with student discipline.
- Experience with various cultural groups, or, preferably, Native Americans.
- Excellent communication skills; both verbal and written
- Good computer skills; Valid WA State drivers license;
- Must successfully complete pre-employment background prior to employment date
- Comply with the tribes substance abuse personnel policy.
Physical Requirements:
- Regularly required to finger, handle, reach with hands and arms
- Frequently required to walk, sit, stand
- Occasionally required to lift and/or move up to 25 pounds
- Normal audio and visual acuity
Travel Requirements:
- Local, statewide and out of state travel may be required.
