  • Participate in nursing assessments.
  • Provide personal care.
  • Take routine vital signs, collect specimens, change dressing, deliver breathing treatments, catheter and colostomy care.
  • Stock supplies.
  • Administer routine medications and assist the Registered Nurse and Physician as needed.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities / Competencies:

To receive credit for all your work history and credentials, you must list the information on the application form. Qualified candidates must document on the application that they clearly possess all the following:

  • Working knowledge of nursing techniques, procedures, theory and practices.
  • Working knowledge of sanitation, personal hygiene, basic health and safety practice
  • Working knowledge of proper dosage, effects and contraindications.
  • Skill in routine medical procedures to include basic wound care, taking vital signs, checking weights and obtaining specimens.
  • Skill in preparing and administering medications, observation and evaluation of individuals' condition(s).
  • Possess ability to respond to potentially life-threatening situations in a calm and orderly manner.
  • Ability to demonstrate a professional and caring approach.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with individuals and guardians orally and in written form.

Management Preferences:

  • Ability to prioritize tasks and maintain organization while delivering quality nursing care
  • Possess excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

Physical Requirements:

  • Position requires extended periods of standing, walking and climbing stairs.
  • Maximum physical effort may be necessary to provide medication/treatment administration, emergency response and provision of other direct clinical services.
  • Routine walking, carrying supplies from Pharmacy and Central Supply.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:

Eligibility for Sign-on Bonus*


Qualified applicants must be selected from the candidate pool of this posting and meet the State policy following requirements: A newly hired permanent full time or permanent part-time employee who works 30 to 40 hours per week is eligible for a sign-on bonus (this will be prorated for employees working less than 40 hours per week). An employee is not eligible for a sign-on bonus if:**


(1) the employee has held a position in North Carolina State government, including the judicial system, or the University of North Carolina system within the last 12 months (the employee shall remain ineligible for 12 months from the separation date);**


(2) the employee has previously received a sign-on bonus from any State agency;**


(3) or DHHS has paid any contract placement or recruitment fees.**
