Position Title

Academic Advisor and Program Coordinator

Job Responsibilities

This position reports to the Director of theSTEPOffice and collaborates with the University faculty and staff to provide comprehensive advising services. This a 10-month, benefits-eligible position.

  • Provide advising services to a population of students who are typically underrepresented inSTEMcareers, including underrepresented minorities and first-generation college students in support of Trumans participation in the Missouri Louis Stokes Alliance for Minority Participation inSTEM(MOLSAMP).
  • Monitor student advisee progress toward degree completion and meet regularly with students to review progress and performance.
  • Maintain familiarity with University academic policies and procedures to assist students in making decisions concerning educational goals.
  • Coordinating tutors and other student workers.
  • Assist with the coordination ofMOLSAMPprogram activities including data collection and reporting, database management, coordination with other member institutions, communication with faculty, staff, and external stakeholders, maintaining websites, and purchasing materials.
  • Collaboration and communication with the Center for Diversity and Inclusion, the Center for Academic Excellence, the McNair Program, and other University offices in pursuit of theSTEPOffices mission.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree.
  • Intercultural competence and ability to relate to low income and first-generation students from a variety of cultural and racial backgrounds.
  • Ability to work collegially and independently, to be goal-oriented, and to be a self-starter.
  • Excellent written, oral, organizational, and interpersonal skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree or higher in aSTEMfield.
  • Masters degree in student affairs, education, or counseling.
  • Work experience in a higher education setting.
  • Experience in grant administration and program coordination.
  • Experience in academic advising, career, or student developmental counseling.
