BD Biosciences (BDB) is a worldwide technology leader producing instrument and reagent products for customers in research and clinical markets. The Research and Development Center of BDB Life Science Research Reagents branch (San Diego, California) together with the manufacturing center at Tatabánya, Hungary establish a new R&D work cell in Hungary to serve the rapidly growing market with new reagent development.

The Scientist – Conjugation of this work group will work on developing new antibody-conjugate products in multi-tasking team environment with a matrix reporting structure. The Scientist II is expected to work independently on challenging tasks and to solve problems. Will review historical development, manufacturing data and scientific literature to extract necessary information and will perform production assignments with in-process inspections to ensure expected quality and yield.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Performs different antibody conjugation tasks accurately and independently, having a complete understanding of the techniques, theories and scientific background involved making assignments through training and reading.

  • Performs, documentation, data entry, and labeling consistently, meeting production specifications and committing to due dates.

  • Be proficient in all technologies within conjugation group. Use experience and knowledge for troubleshooting, process evaluation, assignment review, and emphasis on setting training expectations.

  • Has a firm understanding of all SOPs and batch records and is able to explain them to junior personnel.

  • Reviews and addresses issues during batch record and other document review to minimize impact to the business.

  • Contributes to the completion of milestone associated with specific projects

  • Train or mentor to junior staff.

  • Participates in training or regulatory issues affecting reagent development. Brings regulatory compliance questions/issues to the attention of supervisor.

  • Follows all departmental guidelines and procedures.

  • Promotes a safe work environment. Offers recommendations on maintaining the safety of the work environment. Participates in Environmental Health & Safety programs. Participates in addressing corrective actions whenever hazard is identified. Notifies supervisor of all observed unsafe work practices.

  • Performs cleaning, inspection, verification for calibration and maintenance of equipment. Maintains related logs and records.

Minimum requirements (education, knowledge, and skills):

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related scientific discipline (such as Biochemistry, Chemistry, Biology, Biotechnology or Bioengineering) with 3 or more years of relevant lab experience in biotechnology/pharmaceutical industry or equivalent academic lab.

  • Familiarity with protein chemistry and with operating routine laboratory instruments and applicable software.

  • Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills both in English and Hungarian (the work environment is bilingual).

  • Effective analytical and problem-solving skills.

  • Effective organization and planning skills to ensure on time delivery.

  • Demonstrated ability to follow established policies and procedures and to keep accurate and complete documentation.

  • Flexibility and adaptability.

  • Demonstrated ability to support, motivate and train others.
