Pfizer Team Lead in La Jolla, California

ROLE SUMMARY

As a member of our Tumor Biology Cancer Cell Signaling team, you will conduct biology discovery supporting existing and emerging drug discovery programs in the group, leading a team of scientists to perform laboratory-based research in a collaborative team environment. As Team Leader, you will be involved in evaluation of small molecule inhibitors, target mechanism-of-action studies, interpretation and presentation of data, and will function as an integral member of the project teams to advance programs.

ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Lead a biology team in the successful support of small molecule drug discovery projects.

  • Provide scientific leadership toward selection of novel oncology drug discovery targets and programs.

  • Lead multidisciplinary small molecule drug discovery project teams in the delivery of novel cancer therapeutic candidates.

  • Collaborate across the Oncology Research Unit to advance scientific and portfolio priorities.

  • Grow your team to maximize colleague engagement and development and ensure scientific excellence.

  • Promote the scientific contributions of Pfizer Oncology through publications and external scientific communications.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

  • PhD or MD/PhD in Molecular or Cellular Biology, Pharmacology or a relevant biological science

  • Minimum of 10 years of relevant industry experience in a pharmaceutical/biotech environment.

  • Experience leading and managing laboratory-based teams with familiarity with biological assays supporting drug discovery programs

  • Strong track record of advancing drug discovery programs employing traditional small molecule inhibitors as well as emerging chemical proximity approaches.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

  • In-depth knowledge of cell biology and molecular biology techniques:--should be well-versed in the fundamental and advanced techniques used in the field.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Extensive knowledge and experience in area(s) of tumor biology including oncogene signaling, cell cycle regulation or related tumor-associated dependencies.

  • Proven track record of leading multidisciplinary drug discovery teams in the delivery of IND-ready small molecule clinical candidates

  • Experience proposing, and rigorously interrogating, novel drug target opportunities leading to small molecule drug discovery programs.

  • Track record of significant scientific publications in oncology.

The annual base salary for this position ranges from $149,200.00 to $248,600.00. In addition, this position is eligible for participation in Pfizer's Global Performance Plan with a bonus target of 20.0% of the base salary and eligibility to participate in our share based long term incentive program.
